X社交平台上流出多個監控視頻顯示，週六下午2點多，美國緬因州、佛蒙特州、新罕布夏州、馬薩諸塞州、羅德島州和康乃狄克州等6個州，均傳出兩次巨響，其中馬薩諸塞州和羅德島的建築物都被震動。

據美聯社報導，當地警方和其他部門緊急調查巨響的原因。美國流星協會表示，下午2點30分左右聽到的巨響，是由一顆直徑約3英尺（約90釐米）的流星在波士頓以北、新罕布夏州與馬薩諸塞州交界處附近進入大氣層造成的。
該協會負責人羅伯特．倫斯福德表示，收到了從特拉華州到蒙特利爾的數十份報告，人們要麼聽到了雙重巨響，要麼感覺到了地面震動，要麼看到了火球。
他說，火球看起來像白天天空中的一顆流星，「它肯定比普通的火球大，大約有一米寬。」
他還表示，這顆流星「不太可能撞擊到地面」，「即便沒有在空中燃盡，也應已掉進海裡。」
X平台上的幾段影片記錄下了類似兩聲短促巨響的聲音，但沒有出現火災、煙霧或其他可見的震動跡象。
美國國家海洋暨大氣總署的一顆氣象衛星，捕捉到馬薩諸塞州波士頓地區上空出現閃光。衛星數據顯示，這顆流星從波士頓附近南岸地區上空進入大氣層。目前尚無流星落地點報告。

美國地質調查局表示，雖然收到大量報告，但地震儀沒有記錄到地震活動。
近期，美國多次發生流星墜落事件。3月17日，一顆罕見的火流星照亮了美國東部部分地區的夜空，並引發了音爆。
據美國流星協會稱，弗吉尼亞州、馬里蘭州、賓夕法尼亞州和俄亥俄州的觀星者都看到了這顆火流星。
