Hong Kong: Critical Decision Time for Xi Jinping

It’s said that the Chinese authorities have issued secret orders
to travel agencies in different provinces prohibiting travel
to Hong Kong because of the ongoing Central Occupy.

It is believed that Xi Jinping is faced with making a critical
decision regarding the Hong Kong Central Occupy protests.

The Chinese authorities are sweating about how the democracy
movement will impact the mainland.

September 30, an emergency notice from Yunnan travel agency
online said:

“we are informed by Yunnan Tourism Commission to prohibit
travel to Hong Kong for safety reasons due to the Hong Kong
Central Occupy campaign.

Hong Kong travel list won’t be approved.

The urgent notice also said that the travel group which has
already signed a contract can still make the trip, but needs to be
cautious and not go to the sensitive area and watch the rally."

Sept. 30, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Ministry of
Information Industry also announced the issue of the
iPhone6 network license.

The Apple’s official website announced the sale of iPhone6 and
iPhone6 Plus this month in the mainland on September 17th.

Some netizens speculate that the authorities don’t want people
to purchase iPhone6 in Hong Kong or witness Hong Kong’s
Central Occupy.

So, why does the CCP not want people to know about the
Hong Kong Central Occupy?

US China social issues researcher Zhang Jian:

The Hong Kong issue can truly impact mainland democracy
because Hong Kong information is privately broadcasted
in several friends circles.

Actually the mainland’s regular people care more about
the Hong Kong issue than any other global problem because
they have an expectation.

I think that people’s desire to have freedom is as strong as
rule by oppression."

Well-known pro-democracy activist Zheng Cunzhu believes that
the peace and rational of the Central Occupy is a good role model
for the mainland democratization process.

Zheng Cunzhu: “It’s very successful so far with this kind of
non-violent protest.

It’s a good demonstration for Chinese people, although they
can’t reach their goals in the short term.

The 1989 student’s democratic campaign was suppressed in
China.

However, all the communist countries, including Eastern
Europe, Poland, the dissolved Soviet Union and Hong Kong’s
universal suffrage protest,

will certainly be a good role model for the mainland
democratization process. “

It is said that Hong Kong’s democratic wave has encouraged
many protests on mainland.

In addition to Beijing human rights activist Hu Jia, according to
the doctor of law Teng Biao’s post in twitter;

the participators in the head shaving to support Hong Kong
struggle include Sichuan writer Tan Zuoren;

a member of the Independent Chinese PEN Ye Du;
network commentator Mo Zhixu;

Yunnan freelance writer Xu Hui; Beijing activist Wang Lihong; Guangdong democracy activist Xu Lin; Hunan activist Shi
Ou Feng Biaofeng and so on.

On the other hand, some Chinese activities who are involved
in solidarity with the Hong Kong people were arrested by the
authorities.

Sept.30, Human Rights Defenders reported that Guangzhou
citizens spontaneously supported Hong Kong Central Occupy
in the Martyrs’ Cemetery.

20 people including Huang Minpeng, Liu Hui were arrested.

Zhang Jian: “Hong Kong and the mainland have tight links.

So the CCP can’t prevent the true information spreading to
mainland people promptly by any Internet block.

Also the mainland people have a passion.

They privately believe that if such large-scale emergency led
by such a charismatic group happened on the mainland, we
might have a similar situation as Hong Kong.

Zheng Cunzhu: “Mainland students’ democratic campaign was
supported by the entire Hong Kong people.

In the past 25 years, Hong Kong people always commemorate
the June 4th every year.

Now we should support Hong Kong’s fight for genuine universal suffrage.

I believe the whole country will move towards democracy since
China’s democratization is not in place and we are all Chinese."

Hong Kong Institute Research fellow Wu Zuolai posted on
Twitter that the top CCP leader Xi Jinping is facing a historic opportunity:

to leave a good name forever by giving universal
suffrage to Hong Kong; or to be condemned by history as Deng
Xiaoping for the suppression of June 4th Students Movement.
