Is Egypt’s Protest Site-clearing a Remake of China’s June 4th?

As publicized by the Egyptian government, on August 14,
when protesters were cleared from protesting sites,
638 people were killed and more than 4,000 injured.
Now, turbulence in Egypt has spread across the nation.
The whole world is watching Egypt’s moves.

Some people regard the action of Egypt’s military
as a remake of June 4th in China.
Are these two events comparable?
Please read the report below.

Since the former Egyptian President, Mohammed Morsi,
was ousted, Islamists and their supporters have been
continuously protesting, calling for Morsi to be reinstated.
The Egyptian military cleared protesters from
the protest sites, causing hundreds of fatalities.

The official death toll publicized by the Egyptian
Health Department has reached 200 since August 18th.

Mohamed Tasfik, Egyptian Ambassador in America,
was interviewed by American magazine Foreign Policy.
He stated that it’s not fair to compare Egypt’s recent
happenings to the June 4th Tiananmen Square massacre in China.

Tawfik further clarified that no police stations were attacked
and neither were any police killed in China during June 4th,
not to mention that in Egypt seven churches were burned
and policemen were killed, their corpses abused.
Tawfik pointed out that most injuries and casualties in Egypt
took place when Islamists were attacking everyday people,
government buildings and churches.

Wu Fan, Chief Editor of the Chinese magazine China Affairs:
“On the surface, there were casualties in both events.
Essentially, Beijing government took the initiative to shoot
protesters, while the Egyptian military was forced to shoot.
Most importantly, those students at Tiananmen Square
and the Islamists in Egypt were appealing
for very different things.
Students in China were calling for peace.

Nonetheless, Islamists in Egypt were rioting
to overthrow the government.”

Wu Fan said that peaceful methods should be applied
to solve conflicts.

Li Yiping, author of the book, Strategy for Regime Change:
“The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) carries out a brutal
repression of people who ask for democracy and freedom.
However, what’s happened in Egypt is more like
the conflicts between two cultures.”

Li Yiping stated that the conflicts in Egypt originated
from Islamic Fundamentalists, who intended to destroy
the democratic system in the name of democracy.
However, the moderate secular churches and military
disagreed with the practice of Islamic fundamentalists.

Nonetheless, Li Yiping doesn’t agree with
the violent crackdown either.

Morsi, head of Islamic Brotherhood, took office
about a year ago.
During this year, Islamic forces have dominated
in Egyptian congress.
The new Constitution intended to turn Egypt
into an Islamic country.

In addition to economic deterioration
and an unemployment rate as high as 13%,
22,000 thousand people signed the petition to ask Morsi
to leave office.

Scholar Cao Changqing wrote in his article that the Egyptian
military took Morsi down according to public opinion, which was a wise decision.
If Egypt, as a country with the second largest population
in the middle east, became a”second Iran,” it would be even more unbearable.

Upon learning that the Governor of Calif. was coming to visit,

Based on Reuters’ report, 70% of Egyptians are against
the Islamic Brotherhood.

Constitutionalism Scholar Chen Yongmiao:
“The Islamic Brotherhood is something like Hitler’s
Nazi Party, which caused a big crisis in constitutional history.
That is, it realized constitutionalism with democratic
measure, and soon after implemented dictatorship.
What the Islamic Brotherhood is trying to do now
is very similar to the Nazi Party.”

The Global Times, overseas mouthpiece of the CCP,
published a commentary article on August 16 which said
that what happened in Egypt is the pain that Egypt needs
to suffer for democracy.
It also warned that Egypt will have to pay a great price for it.

On August 15, the Global Times continued to promote
its argument that”tragedies in Egypt verify the challenges that democracy faces.”

Wu Fan: “Why don’t those CCP members think about it?
49 years ago, when Mao Zedong, Liu Shaoqi, and Zhou Enlai
were fighting against Jiang Jieshi, they also did it
under the guise of democracy.
They totally forgot what they said at the time.”

On July 4, 1943, the CCP’s mouthpiece Xin Huan Daily
published a commentary article with the headline
“Eulogy for Democracy — For the United States’
Independence Day.”
The article eulogized the States’ democracy.
It sickeningly said that Chinese people have a favorable
impression of Americans because of their
democratic demeanor and generous heart.

Chen Yongmiao stated that the pain democratization
has brought about originated from the old dictatorial system.
As a metaphor, he said, just like a very ill person,
taking medicines and injections are very painful.
Democracy can bring the country long-lasting stability,
while dictatorship can only bring about turbulence, collapse and civil war.
