Will the “Liberalists” Now Change China?

Sept. 30th, Xinhua News Agency reported nationwide
celebration for the punishment of Bo Xilai.
Led by Wang Yang, Guangdong Provincial Party Committee
held a meeting upholding CCP’s decision.
Comments showed more optimism toward Wang Yang
entering the Central Committee,
but even the “liberal” side of CCP will not change its
authoritarian system.

According Xinhua Agency, after CCP announced its decision
to deprive Bo of Party membership and official position on 28th,
Chongqing Municipal Committee held an enlarged conference
to confirm their support for the central authorities.
They also labeled Bo Xilai as a negative example
of seriously violating CCP principles.

China expert Zhang Jian pointed out that it is uncommon for
CCP to motivate the people against an official as high as Bo.
Such an unusual move indicates CCP’s fierce power struggle.

Zhang Jian: “We can see how those criminal charges
against Bo also apply perfectly to the other CCP officials.
Bo’s punishment is an important result of
CCP’s power struggle.
If the punishment is more severe than expected,
it must be due to Hu Jintao and Xi Jinping’s effective attack upon the Jiang faction.”

Qiuchui Liang, professor of political science at University of
Queensland and former national policy adviser of ROC,
also commented on how it is widely believed
Bo will receive heavy penalties.

Qiuchui Liang, former national policy adviser of ROC:
“Bo Xilai probably cannot escape severe penalties.
Although death is not probable,
reprieved death penalty is quite likely.
It cannot be lighter than 20 years in prison.”

Analysts pointed out that Bo Xilai’s case is now
connected with that of Wang Lijun.
This shows that Hu and Wen still hold power within CCP,
able to take charge of personnel arrangements in18th Assembly.
Wang Yang will be the first beneficiary of these events.

Qiu Chuiliang: “A week ago, it was reported that
Wang Yang will not be able to join the Central Committee.
Now it appears the truth of this report will not come to pass.

If the reformist and liberalist members lead CCP in
the coming period, Wang Yang will be a significant key player amongst them.”

Wang Yang immediately demonstrated his attitude
against Bo after Bo’s fall.
Right after the announcement of Bo’s punishment,
Wang Yang chaired Guangdong Provincial Committee meeting,
confirming the central Party’s decision on Bo’s reprisal.

Guangdong was the first province among all
but Chongqing to express support of CCP’s decision.
People’s Newspapers and other media reported on this.

Zhang Jian: “Guangdong Province needs special emphasis.
CCP’s media share a feature—there’s always political purposes behind their reports.
Now if CCP wants to advertise itself as a democratic party,
Wang Yang will be a very appropriate candidate for Central Committee.”

The currently circulating rumor about a conversation
between Xi Jinping and Hu Deping shows
how Xi Jinping wishes to speed up economic reforms,
and welcomes voices of political reform.
If Wang Yang, a seemingly liberal official enters
the Committee, will the new leading group after 18th Assembly bring changes to China’s future?

Qiu Chuiliang: “Even if the “liberal” side controls CCP
in the coming period, I still do not see significant changes in China’s political situation.
In the end, Chinese people have to stand up to eliminate
CCP’s one-party authoritarian system.
Only then can China return to the normal track of history.”

Qiu Chuiliang pointed out that human history has proven
how no political system of dictatorship allows its people to freely release their potentiality to pursue happiness.
