警方發言人向法新社證實，這起意外已經造成3人喪生，數人受傷。

According to initial findings, there were around 100 people in the regional express, which was on the way from Sigmaringen to Ulm.

路透社報導，斯圖加特巿（Stuttgart）警方指出，該客運列車的兩節車廂在德國、瑞士、法國交界處附近的里德林根鎮（Riedlingen）和蒙德京根鎮（Munderkingen）之間出軌，事故原因仍不得而知。
德通社（DPA）發布照片顯示，出軌車廂大致上沒有受損，但是兩節車身並排橫躺在鐵軌上。
德國鐵路公司（Deutsche Bahn）在聲明中指出，這起事故造成「許多人受傷」，將會對當局的調查提供協助。
