How The Leaders Were Made: New Animated Propaganda Video in China

A comic video has recently appeared
on mainland Chinese internet.
The video is called “How the leaders were made."

The video shows that the US president election
mainly relies on money and eloquence.
In comparison, Chinese leaders need 10 years
of “practice" and “tests", and select capable persons.
Chinese netizens think the video has strong propaganda,
and they satirize the authorities brainwashing with new tricks.

This video runs for about 5 minutes.

Party leaders Xi Jinping and Jiang Zemin
appear as cartoon characters.
It has attracted more than a million
views since it released on October 14.

The video focuses on introducing the election
system of party cadres and national leaders.

The video says if you want to be a Chinese leader,
the first step is to join the Communist Party.
Then, you need to work from the village branch,
county office, bureaus, to provincial department.
It takes 23 years to go through levels
of “selection", “tests", and “exercise".

Then, one comes to the fore with “excellent ability".

Netizens mock that Wang Lijun and Bo Xilai are all
“good cadres" who were selected after all these levels.

Wang Beiji, political commentator: “Why have all
the well selected 7 standing committee members
and so many of the party leaders have transferred
their money and their children to the US?
Why did Wang Lijun flee to the US
consulate during party faction struggles?
Why didn’t he flee to the Russian
Consulate or to North Korea?"

The video says that before a party member becomes
a Chinese leader, the person has already understood
the situation of the nation, and the condition of it’s people.

It took party leader Xi Jinping as an example.

Xi went from the most grassroot level up
to the general secretary through 40 years.
All the new leaders coming out from the 18th Party
congress in 2012 went up these stages “step by step".

Wang Beiji: “None of the party cadres, from section level
to central leadership level, were voted for by people.
None of them were authorized by
people to take charge of public affairs.
They got their power from extortion and secret dealings,
and such a system is against the people’s voices.
The cadres don’t need to know
the suffering or difficulty for people.
They only believe in the distorted history, and party history."

Civil election expert Yao Lifa also points out that
even the grassroot village official elections are
under a black-box operation in mainland China.

Yao Lifa, civil election expert: “95% of village
committee elections in China are illegal.
It’s very difficult to achieve the right to elect and to
express individual’s will, but it’s even more difficult
to achieve the right to be elected. Why is this?

In many of China’s rural areas, tyrants, triads and
corrupt officials control and manipulate these places."

The video takes a very short time to introduce
the election processes in the UK and the US.
It says the conditions you need to compete for US
presidency are eloquence, strength and finances.

Wang Beiji: “The US citizens can vote for the
candidates they like with their ballot and money.
And the money donated to the candidates for
promotion and election is under legal supervision.
The US government counts every vote
and state’s opinion during the election.
It legally use the money it gets from people,
to promote its policy under supervision."

Many netizens are curious about the producer of the
video. The signature of the video is “Revival Road Office".
Some people think the video is
related to the Revival Road in Beijing.
There are many central ministries
and agencies on Revival Road.
The State Administration of Radio and Television and
China Central Television are the most possible producers.
Some netizens comment that “the slaves
have started to flatter the emperor again."
