Ai Reappears on Twitter

Activist and artist Ai Weiei has been released
on bail for over a month now.
Under admonition and monitoring of the authorities,
he has disappeared from social-network websites.
Yet on August 7, he reappeared on Twitter
and continued to interact with netizens for three days.
Zhao Lianhai, known as the “father of kidney stone babies”.

says that Ai’s reappearance is not unexpected,
as any conscious person would not keep silent to injustice.

On August 7, Ai Weiwei reappeared on Twitter
after days of silence.
Although he only posted several words and a few photos
with profound meanings, netizens were already thrilled.
Ai’s message reads: “Let me say, hello, and give a hug.
10 dumplings for lunch with 5 pieces of garlic. Gained 3 kilos."

One of the three photos he posted has two children on it.
A netizen asked if they were his sons, but he has not replied.
Another picture is of Ai, eyes wide open with confusion.

The third picture shows that his current weight is 97 kilos.
His sister said earlier, Ai lost 30 pounds during detainment.

Zhao Lianhai: “I’m not surprised. Old Ai is out to speak again.
I personally understand his previous silence.
It also reflects the seriousness of dissidents’ suppression
from the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).”

On August 8, Ai Weiwei released three Twitter messages.

The first reads: “Today I met Liu Zhenggang.
For the first time he talked about his detainment.
Raising his right hand he said, ‘Sir, I want to drink’.
Then, tears streamed down the cheeks of this tough guy.
He had a heart attack in custody,
and almost died from it."

Then Ai wrote, “For a while we were detained together.

I learned that a bearded artist has come in,
but I never imagined that it would be him.”

The third one reads, “Liu Zhenggang, Hu Mingfen, Wen Tao,
Zhang Jinsong, and other innocent people
were detained illegally because of me.

They suffered from severe
persecution both physically and spiritually.”

Ai Weiwei was forced to “disappeared” for 81 days,
the news for which attracted worldwide attention.
However people still don’t know
what happened to him during that period.

According to Radio Free Asia, on August 8, the German
Der Spiegel released for the first time details about Ai.
It confirmed Ai was detained in Miyun County near Beijing,
and that he underwent extreme experiences in detainment.

The article’s author, Bei Ling, said that Der Spiegel made
all efforts to confirm Ai’s detainment, without disturbing Ai’s life.

Zhao wrote: “For now we have no freedom of speech.
We have a lot of human rights not yet obtained.
This is the reality in today’s China. We will stick to our
principles and continue criticizing the injustice in society.
We cannot remain silent.”

On the afternoon of August 9, Ai appeared again on Twitter,
saying publicly, “If you do not speak for Wang Lihong
or Ran Yunfei, you do not speak for justice,
and furthermore, you do not have self-respect.”
