Chinese Intellectuals Refute Accusation of Western Infiltration

Mao Yushi, Chinese economist, and He Weifang,
law professor of Peking University disagree with Zhang Yinwei.

Zhang Yingwei, is the regional team leader of the Chinese
Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) disciplinary group.

He has asserted that “CASS has four major ideological problems".

Let´s take a look.

Zhang Yingwei said the 4 ideologies in CASS include:
creating trouble in the name of academia;
creating cross-border sophistry via the Internet;
illicit collusion during a sensitive period;
and accepting infiltration by foreign forces.

Zhang requests CASS staff to politically align themselves
with the central Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

Mao Yushi responded on Weibo “Why do we have
a People´s Congress, banks, a Banking Regulatory Commission,
trains, planes, computers and more?
Are any of these not infiltrated from the West?"
“Regarding Western ideas imported into China, which one has
benefited Chinese people? Which one has caused disasters?"

Teng Biao, China-based human rights lawyer: “Zhang´s words
actually are the mentality of class struggle again,
which always promoted ideas of struggle against enemies.

Zhang accused Western democracy and upholding universal
values as hostile forces.

He also accused the purpose of these Western “hostile forces"
is to take over the CCP´s power and find representatives in China."As for Zhang Yingnan´s words “accepting infiltration by hostile
foreign forces´,
He Weifang questioned that “scholars specially study and
introduce one overseas scholar´s concept
belongs to academic research;
if one accepted funds for a unique project,
then it damaged our country´s interest,
it’s the job of the national intelligence agency.

Many members of the public condemn central disciplinary
departments for not doing a proper job of
investigating corrupt officials.

Teng Biao: “The system of official ideology and
thinking is ridiculous,
it contradicts basic common sense and logic.

Now with the growth of the Internet, more and more people
don´t accept these kinds of arguments.
So the CCP feels weak.
and less people believe the CCP than democracy."

Some people say that in the early years, the CCP co-founders
Li Dazhao, Chen Duxiu and others accepted
Russian CCP infiltration, then soviet socialism and
violent revolution was imported into China.

As for Zhang Yingwei´s accusation of “creating
cross-border sophistry via the Internet",
Chinese writer Liu Yiming argues that talking about
the country affairs on the Internet is intellectuals´ freedom,
it didn´t break the law.

Liu Yiming: “The fundamental problem
is one-party´s tyrannical rule.
It just wants to control intellectuals.

Especially in a sensitive time, one must be careful to control
one´s speech. If having overseas contacts, means being accused of
collusion with foreign countries, and committing crimes,
then CCP officials should not go abroad!
In addition, the internet and international
telephone lines should be cut off completely!"

Regarding Zhang Yingwei´s new phrase “cross-border
sophistry", what indeed does that mean?
Zhang and his officials have no further explanation.

Liu Yiming: “That´s his own saying.
People´s eyes are clear.
Why can’t the CCP´s “right principle"
guide people? but “sophistry" does?
Actually, the CCP couldn´t find a way
to back up its words.
In ancient China, scholars spoke directly and bravely, and
were responsible to society.
Now one-Party rule suppresses the truth and expression,
it’s worse than the old days!"

Teng Biao says that the system and ideology in China
antagonize the entire intelligentsia.

Teng Biao: “After so many political struggles, the backbone of
Chinese academia seems broken.

All research and expression of views must align
with the CCP´s stance.

Yet there are many people left in intellectual circles, who have
independent and free minds,
who dare to speak out and take responsibility."

Teng Biao believes that such official words cannot threaten
independent intellectuals any more,
So far, the majority of online responses are mocking the CCP,
nobody takes it seriously.
