Junior School Pupils Form The Fourth Wave Of Studying Abroad

In Mainland China, the views on studying abroad are dim.

More and more students returning from studying abroad have
difficulty in either finding a job or wait long term for one.
In recent years, it has formed the forth wave of studying abroad
for middle school and even primary school pupils.
The main students are juniors. Why do the parents send their
children to study abroad? Please look at the reporter’s analysis.

Data from a “2013 White Paper on China studying abroad"
showed numbers have increased 21.8% from 2011 to 2012.
It accounts for 14% of studying abroad in the world.

In semester 2010-2011, Chinese students entering US private
middle schools sharply increased 100 times over five years.

According to FBI investigation data, Chinese students holding
the F1 visa to study in private middle school number 23795.
In 2008, the number was 4508. In four years,
this has increased by four times.

In Canada, Spokesman of Vancouver Education Bureau said,

in semester 2012 -2013, between infant school to grade 12
in Vancouver, international students number 1086.
Of those, 645 are Chinese which is 60% of all.

In 2009 near Vancouver, in Richmond Secondary School,
there were 450 international students.
In semester 2011-2012, Chinese students numbers alone
went up to 425.
In new Zealand, there are also large number of
Chinese students and the youngest one is only 5-year-old.

The late 1970s and early 1980s, saw the first wave
of studying abroad, with visiting scholars.
After four or five years, large number paying students went
abroad to study master or doctoral degrees.
Since 2000, the third wave of studying abroad occurred.

The students preferred to study abroad other than join
the college entrance examinations in China.
Their achievements are ordinary and their families’ economic
situations are good.

The main part of the fourth wave was post 1990 or post 2000.

The main countries are England, US, Australia, New Zealand,
Canada and Singapore.

Sun Yuchen (overseas student in the US): “In China, all study
activities are geared around college entrance examinations.
This isfrom primary school to high school.
Either the course from the old or new course standard!
I feel that in some sense, all students in the Chinese education
system are victims.
They can’t enjoy the diversification and good education system
like the US.

Sun Yuchen also said that many middle-class groups in China
could afford to pay tuition fees over 100,000 US dollars a year.
They have the capability to choose the education
system for their children.
However, he also pointed out that the best chance
to study abroad is in high school.

Former president of Yale University, Beinuo Schmid Gaudet
has published an article that criticizes Chinese universities.
He thought that Chinese universities were “meeting politics and
profits has damaged the ideal of the university to pursue truth.

Schmid said: “Power charged everything. Through liberal arts
planning scholarships, the power destroyed thinking.
It has enticed the Chinese scholars to become cynics.

They can only fight internally and lack moral courage
to criticize politics.
It is disappointing that there are groups of scholars without
ideals in the hometown of Confucius and Mencius.”

Recently, director of Peking Guanghua School of Management
Zhang Weiying said: “The biggest failing of Chinese education
is not limiting the youth creation but eliminating their curiosities.
By making them hypocritical they will not be embarrassed by lying.

One mother Ms. Cui: “We send our children abroad;
my child is polluted in Chinese society otherwise.
In Chinese society, especially there is no good guide
for children.
That’s to say, there are nothing except money and
relationships between people.
Life has lost the fundamental things:
truthfulness and compassion.”

Ms. Cui thought that in the US education system,
things are arranged according to students’ favorites.
The education structures are also reasonable and contain humanity.
Abroad, there is guarantee safety of food and breathing clean air.
So why not study abroad?

Zhengjian website says that with the education system of the
Chinese Communist Party (CCP), students have deviated from morality and compassion.
The CCP made histories and advocated fighting philosophy.

It made students of new generation illiterate by
“knowing words but not understanding justification” and
“breaking the Chinese away from Western traditional cultures”.
