Beijing Media Publish Editorials in Fear of Jasmine Rallies during the Two Meetings

The two meetings are currently being held in Beijing.
On Sunday, a third wave of “jasmine rallies” occurred,
and state-run media published two editorials,
showing the intense situation in Beijing.
Last year, 514 billion RMB was spent on nation-wide
“stability maintenance”, the budget for which
increases to 624.4 billion this year,
higher than the budget for military expenses of 2011.

According to Le Figaro, the CCP is threatened by the
“jasmine rallies” occurred while the People’s Congress
is discussing the 12th five-year plan.
The CCP is especially frightened by such rallies,
which have more police and reporters than protestors,
before it’s power transfer.

The CCP usually avoids commenting on political
movements in other countries, using excuses such as
“respecting people’s choice.” But on Mar. 5 and 6,
Beijing Daily published editorials slandering protests
in the Middle East, hinting the Chinese “jasmine rallies”.

Beijing Daily’s unusual editorials by Ren Siwen
compared the protests in North Africa and the
Middle East to the “jasmine rallies” in China,
warning possible participants of Sunday’s rally.

The first editorial referred to the recent movements
in North Africa and the Middle East as “riots” and
“disasters”, and blamed foreign “conspiring forces”
for the “jasmine rallies” in China, which, the article
claimed, was strongly disapproved by “the people”.

The second editorial called for actions against the
“jasmine rally” at Wangfujing, and was published
and circulated among official news sites at 2 a.m.
while the papers were still in printing.

Prior to this, dozens of people were detained or
controlled in Beijing without legal procedures.
These people remain missing till today.

According to Western media, the Chinese “jasmine
rallies” have threatened the CCP security agencies,
causing the security forces to panic,
nervously chasing any possible leads.

Prof. Ma Yue from Hong Kong Chinese University,
member of the HKDDN wrote to Ming Pao:
“For the past 30 years, the progress of political reform
in China is far behind the economic reform.
Economic growth and political suppression will not
resolve social conflicts that will intensify over time.”
