CCP’s “Zero Appeal”

During Chinese Communist Party’ (CCP) 18th congress,
authorities dispatched staff to head off petitioners in Beijing.
According to Hong Kong media, the National Petition Office
recently had “zero appeal” that’s very rarely seen.
The report says, plainclothes and many police cars from
different provinces showed up near National Petition Office and bus stops.
Many petitioners were arrested in Beijing.

The petitioner Zhang Yaodong, from Pingdingshan City
of Henan Province, was arrested in a hotel in Beijing.

Forced Beijing Security Volunteers

Meanwhile, Beijing also has over 1.4 million
so called security volunteers.
AFP interviewed 20 of the volunteers, and found that
not all volunteers were willing to be volunteers.
Also this work has almost no financial compensation.

The report says not all volunteers can get compensation.
Some of them get nothing.
A retired worker said even if there was some payment,
it’d be given to the Street Committee, not the volunteers.
The only compensation for those security guards, working
on the streets in the cold are their uniforms, laundry detergent, some cooking oil, etc.

A retired teacher volunteer explained
the nature of this security work.
He said, if he sees something unusual or petitioners,
he must report to the Street Committee or call the police.
He also said, no matter how reasonable petitioners’ motives
may be, only police has the right to make decision on them.
