environmentalist, offered a reward of 300,000 yuan.

He asked the of local environmental protection chief

to swim in a river to experience water quality.

over 40 people broke into Chen Yuqian’s house.

that Chen suffering this attack has to be related

to his offering of the 300,000 yuan reward.

She said that the police did not

deal with the thugs afterwards.

Chen Yuqian was jailed in 2009 for disclosing

local severe pollution caused by a mill, which

was operated by local village officials.

After his release, Chen became

a victim of official land grabbing.

He has petitioned for years to the authorities,

but each time was intercepted or detained.
