China’s Housing Demolition Office Claims to
“Demolish Heaven & Earth”

“The most domineering” Chinese couplet poem on forced
house demolition by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP)
was recently broadcast on the internet,
sparking waves of netizens’ criticism and irony.

On Dec. 10th, the most domineering poem on CCP’s
forced house demolition was exposed on the internet.
The couplet was found glued to the door
of the housing demolition office,
which is tasked with demolition in the jurisdiction area
of Changlu street in Nanjing city.
The first line said, “Demolishing the Heaven, demolishing
the earth, and demolishing heaven and earth.”
The second line said, “Stabilizing the masses,
stabilizing the heart, and stabilizing mass hearts.”

China’s media report quoted netizens’ comments.
Netizen Zhongge Bashi says, “What a big brag!”
Netizen Huang Yiwen says ”the couplet’s first line should be
revised as “Tyrannizing the Heaven, tyrannizing the earth, and tyrannizing heaven and earth.”
Another netizen said its second line should be revised as
“Hurting the masses, hurting the heart, hurting mass hearts.”
A netizen even wrote a couplet horizontal wall inscription,
called “Violence & Windfall Gain”.
A Helongjiang-based netizen posted that official housing
demolition offices have long been notorious for destroying countless families’ peaceful life.

The report said, a nearby shop clerk revealed that
this couplet has been hanged up for a long time.
The clerk wondered how the house demolition office could
demolish the heaven and the earth besides houses?
Reportedly, on the wall inside this office, there are many slogans.

Such as “Braving all rebuffs”, “Being shameless”,
“Wearing out the tongue”, “Wearing out shoes”, amongst others.

Ms.Ju (Nanjing resident): “It’s just posing by speaking
nicely in this couplet. But it’s useless.
Whatever you do, house demolition or land acquisition,
you should truly be concerned with peoples’ life.”

Ms. Ju reveals that the regime’s forced house demolition
have made lots of local residents homeless.
They have to dwell in shabby makeshifts shacks,
with quality of life declining significantly.

Petitioner Ding Hongfen is a victim of house demolition.

She says that CCP house demolition offices are set up to get
political achievement, equal to grabbing civilians’ houses.
In 2004, without her consent, local authorities sold Ding’s
house and land.
She was not informed until Nov. 2007 that her house was
to be demolished.

Ding Hongfen: “I think that local authorities
are just robbing people’s houses and lands.
Then they sold the lands to pocket money for their own.
That’s where their fiscal revenue came from.”

Ms. Ju: “If house demolition can be done according to law,
you should buy my house and land with my consent first.
But now, I found that I even don’t have right to my property.
House demolition becomes mandatory.”

The report said the author of the couplet is Wang Xiaokang,
a local deputy Party chief in charge of house demolition.
Wang proposed the slogan back at the end of 2010.

He said that the house demolition office’s main task is
to serve development of Nanjing Chemical Industry Park.
“Development means land usage, which requires demolition."

Reportedly, the Changlu Street began the demolition since 2000,
leaving empty lands for Nanjing Chemical Industry Park.
So far, only 10,000 residents remain in the area from a
previous population of 40,000.
In the next three to five years, all housing in the area will
be relocated, according to the official planning.

Ma Hanliang(Petitioner in China): “It is the government,
it has power but is unreasonable.
Our local house demolition office just claims they aren’t
controlled by laws.
That’s their slogans, what can you do with them?”

Similar remarks are commonly heard across China.

In Suiling county, Helongjiang Province, local officials
openly threatened a household about to be demolished.
“Have you watched TV yet? Even if you self-immolate,
the house still needs to be torn down.
Just wait for the arrival of the day when you can cry.”

In Jiahe, Hunan Province, local authorities proposed
a slogan reading
“Whoever affects Jiahe’s development in any way,
his whole lifetime will be affected;
Whoever make Jiahe loose face,
he/she will loose his job;
Whoever doesn’t cooperate with Jiahe County,
he/she will be reappointed.”

On Dec. 11th in its official microblog, CCP Nanjing Municipal
Commission for Discipline Inspection reportedly said that
the domineering slogan has been ordered to be removed.

A netizen posted online his comments on the issue.

The post said, “Behind the slogan of “demolishing the heaven
and the earth” is standing a “utterly lawless” and powerful figure.
The figure lacks reverence towards heaven and earth,
towards the law, and towards the people’s hearts.
