Taiwan Election Results Show Chinese Economic Card Failed.

The largest local election in the history in Taiwan is finished;
the KMT (Chinese Nationalist Party) crashed in this election.
Out of a total of 22 seats in the county and city,
KMT has made only six seats.
It had a new lowest total percentage of votes and lost the
governing of most of the country.
For the mainland economic card mentioned by the ruling
party in the pre-election, Taiwan people refused to pay for
it, but using the votes to show, a better future of the
country depends on quality of the people, not the party.

Before the election Taiwan’s ruling party KMT, played cross-
strait and economic cards, and tried to highlight the plight
of Taiwan’s industry referring to mainland China and South
Korea’s upcoming free trade zone agreement FTA.

The BBC commented, the failure of KMT’s “economic card"
Is very simple.
Firstly, the young generation is unable to share in
the fruits of economic liberalization.
Secondly, millions of Taiwanese businessmen make a profit
or high salary, it’s not just the young people who don’t
benefit from it, it may also drive a rise in local prices and
consumption levels, exacerbating the disparity of wealth.
Thirdly, playing the “economic card" may deepen the
impression of businessman interference in domestic
affairs and a powerful monopoly.

Taiwan legislator Yu Mei-nu when interviewed told
reporters that the people used the votes to prove that
there is a problem in Ma’s government cross-trait policies.

DPP (Democratic Progressive Party) legislator Yu Mei-nu,
“It can be seen, China is using the economy to force the
government, or completely ignore this part of human rights,
and this is not feasible.
So if China wants to improve the cross-strait relationship,
it also has to listen to the voice of the people of Taiwan."

This election in Taiwan can be said as an effect of the
Sunflower Student Movement;
The voters not only distrust Ma government’s team,
but are also using the votes to say “NO" to the Chinese
Communist Party (CCP), which is the best testimony.

DPP legislator Yu Mei-nu, “When the government is standing
on the opposite side of the people, the people will use the
votes to take back the power at any time. In a democracy
country the most important thing is the people.
The people are the masters, the people decide, so the
Sunflower Student Movement shouted a slogan;
‘The people are the nation’s commander’."

Taiwan Intelligence Advisory Board Tong Li-Wen, “We should
be the ones to save our own country and fight for our rights.
The local elections, in fact, reflected the policy of President
Ma, for Taiwan’s voters, is not only despair but also anger."

After the Sunflower Student Movement in March, after the
experience of the student movement, the students
understand their connections to the politics, their election
thinking is not subject or limited to political division.
Their motivation to participate in politics is getting stronger,
an important reason that affected the election outcome.

DPP legislator Yu Mei-nu: “The peoples’ power really cannot
be ignored.
Especially when the government ignored the voice
of the people, the people will strike back."

Apple Daily editorial pointed out that the election results
show that Taiwan’s politics and campaign culture have
significantly changed.

The rapid emergence of a new political generation, the
Sunflower Student Movement lights up citizenship
awareness, voter “Teach KMT a Lesson", and the rise of
network models and network politics.

Under the tight control of the network of free speech by
the CCP, many users at the same time are arrested due
to making objection comments, Taiwan’s Internet villagers
are keen to discuss political issues.
However they let the KMT suffer this
unprecedented defeat.

Taiwan Confucius Institute director Dr. Kong Weiqin, “You
will find that the previous KMT machines began to loosen
up, and then you see their strong one-way propaganda
indoctrination also does not seem to have a role.
However, it is popular on the Internet and communication
between the people.
Especially those things from KMT that people are not
satisfied with, and those problems that do not take into
account of the people, these are the issues which will
continue to spread among the people."

In addition, Ma Ying-jeou is expected to convene the
Central Standing Committee on Dec. 3, as to whether
he will resign as chairman of the KMT, Ma Ying-jeou
currently has no explanation.
However, on Dec. 1 at noon, Wu Den-yih resigned from the
KMT Vice Chairman position.
He certainly will not be proxy KMT chairman.
