Ethan Gutmann: Slaughter Is Alive In China

Mr. Ethan Gutmann is a veteran investigative reporter
and China analyst based in England.

His new book, The Slaughter, was published in August.

In an interview with NTD, Mr Gutmann said that The Slaughter
does not just describe history, but continues in China today.

Let’s take a look.

In order to complete his book, The Slaugter, Ethan Gutmann
spent five years to interview with more than 120 people,
including police, doctors, and labor camp survivors.

Included is a personal experience of an Uighur surgeon
Enver Tohti who was forced to take part in the removal of
organs from executed prisoners in 1995.

Ethan Gutmann: He is taken to the execution grounds, shots
were fired, and people were killed.

One of the people, they said, pick him up, put him in the van,
take out his organs.

He’s amazed, because the man is still alive.

He’s been shot, shot on the side.

The body has gone into shock, but not perfectly.

So when he made the first cut, the body lurched, and after
that, it calmed down, the body calmed down.

But the blood continued to pulse throughout the entire time
he was doing this operation.

He said the organ harvesting from living has existed in China
for decades, and Falun Gong is the largest group of victims.

Gutmann was the first person to interview more than
50 Falun Gong refugees.

Ethan Gutmann: The fact is there are refugees coming out
of China, and about a third of them that I talked to had all
received this very similar examination.

Examination of the corneas, close examination of the corneas,
but no responding test of the eyesight, liver, kidneys,
same thing, but no general look at the health, nothing,
no ears, nose, throat, or genitals, nothing.

This kind of examination is so specifically aimed at
the retail of organs.

He estimated that between year 2000 and 2008,
close to 100,000 Falun Gong practitioners have been killed
for organ harvesting, and Communist leadership knows
this killing and profiting fact.

Ethan Gutmann: Wang Lijun setting up surgery and getting an
award for it, for doing thousands of transplants.

As a policeman, he’s the right-hand man to Bo Xilai.

This indicates that this is known at the highest level
of the leadership.

There is absolutely no other way to read it.

He said that after The Slaughter was published,
the news release on the Minghui website founded by Falun Gong
practitioners in late August had him very worried.

Ethan Gutmann: Where they said there are 12 provinces where
policemen have come into Falun Gong practitioners’ homes and
taken swabs from inside their cheek for DNA and blood sample.

That is tissue matching.

That’s the beginning of categorizing people down to the DNA,
not just the blood, that’s tissue matching.

That indicates they are looking at them as potential sources for organs.

He speculated that this may be the CCP’s tactics to intimidate
Falun Gong practitioners, but he is more worried
that the CCP will pursue an even larger scale of killing.

Gutmann hoped that readers will grapple with
these true stories.

He also hoped that all Westerners will think about
a relevant issue.

Ethan Gutmann: How can we in the West go to China to extend
our lives to get an organ when most likely, chances are,
an innocent person is dying for this?

He believes that any patient who received such a treatment
should not be kept as a confidential matter.

Ethan Gutmann: This is an issue of basic human ethics.

My mother probably could have been preserved for her life a
little longer by some organ transplant.

This is not right, we cannot do this.

He said that Israel made the decision to ban organ tourism
to China, and the rest of the world can make
the same decision.
