Guo Meimei: Anxious State-Run Media, CCP Senior Level Officials Have Two Concerns

Guo Meimei, the high-profile wealthy young lady, caused
the plummeting credability of the Red Cross in China and donations to decrease dramatically.
Due to this, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP)
mouth-piece media such as XinHua Net and People’s Daily,
published a series of articles to “hunt” Guo Meimei.
They’re also targeting the Red Cross.
While the world questions whether this case is too complex,
we invited commentators to analyze the concerns of CCP senior leaders.

Two years ago, Guo Meimei flaunted her wealth in a high
-profile fashion, resulting in the China Red Cross receiving
many notes with the words “get out” during its donation
collection after the April 20 Lushan earthquake this year.
Soon after, Wang Yongzeng, member of the Red Cross
Social Supervision Committee, said the Committee will re-investigate Guo Meimei.
But on June 9, the Committee didn’t vote the decision
through during its mid-year meeting.
Then Guo Meimei wrote a microblog which said that

if anyone dares to touch her, she will immediately
release details of many unknown Red Cross scandals.

On June 25, People’s Daily published a signed commentary
saying that the high-profile and domineering Guo Meimei
caused the Red Cross and related government departments
a big scare, which shows there’s skeletons in the Red Cross closet.
The writer questioned when the Red Cross
will re-investigate Guo Meimei’s case.

In addition, on June 27, Xinhua Net published an article
which said that it’s hard for people to understand why
the Red Cross kept silent and chose to avoid in the face
of such arrogant criticism.
The article also said that Guo Meimei must be re-probed.

Mr. Chen, Chinese citizen: “Chinese society
is too dark, too dark. It’s dark to an unimaginable level.
When touches a hunted down issue from the high level,
the government officials are cooperating with gangland.
Why does Guo Meimei dare to criticize?

Because the government doesn’t dare to investigate,
because the Red Cross has too many deep concerns.”

As early as June 12, Xinhua Net published an article on
its bbs stating that each time Guo Meimei flaunts her wealth
is a test of patience for the Red Cross, and the Red Cross’
endurance ability is oddly strong.
The article also said that the relationship between
Guo Meimei and Red Cross is too complex for speculation.

Ye Ke, a Public Policy Ph.D. from University of
Southern California in the United States,
said CCP senior leaders need to assess two aspects
of the impact of this event.
At the same time, the Red Cross is extremely shady.

If this event angers the people, it will cause a strong impact
on the CCP regime.

Ye Ke, a Public Policy Ph.D. from University of Southern
California: “The regime will assess the impact of this event.
Because the Guo Meimei has the highest level leaders of CCP
behind her, her power is very strong, and to deal with them may shock the CCP system.
After thinking about this, CCP senior leaders may decide
to do nothing.
If finally people are more angry, and Guo Meimei causes
the Party to lose face, then it may deal with Guo and the people beneath her as scapegoats."

People’s Daily said in a June 13 commentary that
the Red Cross Social Supervision Committee and Red Cross are, “in the same interest group.”

On June 16, Guo Meimei held a luxury birthday party
in Macao, flaunting her wealth yet again.
Netizens estimated that she spent at least several million
RMB at this event.

On June 18, Xu Xin, a China legal scholar, said in a microblog
that the Red Cross didn’t bring lawsuit against Guo Meimei, and the valid time for a lawsuit will expire soon.

Zhu Jianguo, former deputy editor of Southern Human
Resource Market: “CCP media just exposed the corruption
of Red Cross, which is the biggest achievement.
It’s nothing more than Guo Meimei continuous carrying on
that anger the people.
From people’s point view, CCP media’s actions
have no significant meaning.”

However, Xinhua Net and People’s Daily gradually deleted
their articles from their websites.

Ye Ke: “Now the CCP media merely reflects one voice.

It (party media) doesn’t point out the degree of corruption
of the Red Cross and the root reason behind the system.
It just uses something to fool people into believing
that it dares to say something.
But actually, their words are very superficial.”

Ye Ke also said that Guo Meimei’s case is not an isolated one.

It reflects the unhealthy deformity of the society
and the system.
Once Guo Meimei falls, people will see
she is also a victim of the system.
To solve the issue fundamentally, it must change
the current conditions of the society and the system.
