Du Daobin’s Column Put to a Stop Again

Hubei political writer Du Daobin’s Southern Network
column was halted again after being restored recently.
Du Daobin believes it may be associated with his
two website articles regarding political reform.

Du Daobin, a well-known political commentator, civil
and political philosophy scholar, specializes in social justice,
state order, and political reform.

On Nov. 25, Southern Network terminated his column.

He said on his blog that this time, authorities really took
his column seriously.
However, he thinks the reason may be that two
of his articles were audited by the chief auditor.

It is learned that Du recently sent two articles
to Southern Network.
One criticized the newly set up
National Security Committee.
He believes that the power of National Security
Committee has been confined to a cage.

The other article is related to judicial reform.
Du believes that a prosecutor should be independent,
making the most impartial supervision
outside the confinesof the power struggle
of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

Du Daobin said that his viewpoint was completely
in tune with the spirit of the Third Plenary.
He is puzzled that his article was not published.

Du Daobin: “Didn’t authorities want economic reforms,
deepened reforms?
System reforms were also mentioned in the document.

I specifically studied system reforms for many years,
so I’ll give them some suggestions.
We work together, so officials and ordinary people
join forces to promote reforms together.
What a great thing that would be!
Unfortunately, they withheld my article."

On Nov. 14, Du Daobin’s Southern Network column
was restored.
On Nov. 15, he revealed that “Hundred Questions
of Justice" would be the anthology name, and Pushing Hands
for Reform would be the name of his column.

He also recommended his first political commentary-
Du Daobin: Striving for changes, interpretation
of the Bulletin of the 18th Third Plenary Session.

On Nov. 21, Du Daobin revealed on twitter that his
Southern Network column did not materialize.
He had sent in his articles, but they were not published.

On Nov. 25, he tweeted again that he was notified
not to send anymore articles.

Du said that the young editor associated with him
at Southern Network was pressured by some high levels.

Do Daobin: “The young editor really appreciates my articles.
But, he admitted that he did not know me well
and did not realize my sensibility.
He was heavily pressured by higher ups."

Zhu Xinxin, former editor of Hubei People’s Radio, believes
that it was a new round of suppression of freedom.

Zhu Xinxin: “Recently, blogs from freedom lovers
and even famous scholars were deleted.
In addition, the Influencing China website was shut down.
That is because the CCP wants to strengthen its power
by implementing their new round of reforms to strengthen
the public opinion consensus."

Currently, the CCP has dealt with over 100,000 accounts
with violations.
Accounts from two scholars, Zhang Lifan and Zhang Qianfan,
were also cancelled.

Du Daobin, 50, got into trouble for being outspoken
on many occasions.
In 2000, he published political comments questioning
the urban and rural tax injustice, calling on authorities
to give farmers equal national treatment.

In July 2001, he published “Worthless ─an assessment
on Jiang’s July speech."
He also participated in and organized several network
activities against suppression of freedom of expression.

Hubei columnist Liu Yiming: “I think his articles were
relatively restrained.
His column was blocked because of his sensitive identity.
After all, he was jailed a few times."

In 2002, Du Daobin had a website column in the U.S.
Chinese newspaper, The Epoch Times.
He criticized China affairs, supported solidarity
demonstrations in Hong Kong, and demanded democracy and freedom.
In 2003, he was detained.

A year later, he was sentenced to a three-year prison term
on charges of inciting subversion of state power.

In July 2008, he was taken to Wuhan Han West Prison.
In December 2012, he was escorted to a prison in Hubei.
Hubei officials cursed him, saying people like him should
be ruined financially, reputably and physically.

This year, on the eve of the Tiananmen massacre, Du Daobin
was detained by the CCP for three posts regarding political reforms.
In early July, he was released on bail and has been
detained in his hometown in Hubei.
