Hong Kong: Tens of Thousands of Students Strike For
Democracy

A week-long Hong Kong University student strike against
the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) People’s Congress
political reform proposal formally began on Sept. 22.

According to the Hong Kong Federation of Students (HKFS)
who launched the strike, more than 13,000 students
concentrated on Mega Millions Avenue at the Chinese
University of Hong Kong.

The students used the rally theme of Hong Kong democratic
road is anti-colonization and anti-filtering to criticize
the suspected CCP’s colonization in Hong Kong.

According to a Hong Kong media report, the student strike
is the beginning of a series of civil disobedience actions
by Hong Kong against the CCP’s censorship
of real universal suffrage.
The student strike not only wins support from Hong Kong,
but international support.
There has been extensive international solidarity events held
in the U.S., Canada, Taiwan and other countries.

Strike sponsor Hong Kong Federation of Students (HKFS)
issued a public letter to current Chief Executive
Leung Chun-ying.

They request him to have an open dialogue with students
and the people at Tamar park and listen to public opinion.
Otherwise, the action will be upgraded from strike
to a variety of civil disobedience actions.
The HKFS representative said, “This is a challenge
to Leung Chun-ying on behalf of 13,000 students!"

Xi Jinping Supports Political Reform Proposal in Meeting
With Hong Kong Businessman

Communist Party leader Xi Jinping met with a large-scale
Hong Kong business delegation in Beijing on the same day
students from 20 Hong Kong universities strike against
the universal suffrage censorship.

The delegation is led by former Hong Kong Chief Executive
Tung Chee-hwa, including representatives of Hong Kong
commerce such as Li Ka-shing and Henderson Land
chairman Lee Shau Kee.

According to a Radio Television Hong Kong report, although
in public meeting Xi Jinping said the CCP’s basic policy
in Hong Kong won’t change he said the CCP Standing
Committee’s political reform has to be respected and strictly
followed in a subsequent closed-door talk.

Hong Kong’s Chief Executive candidate must be trusted
by the CCP and must love both Hong Kong and China.

The report says Xi also said he supports the Hong Kong
government prosecution of illegal activities.

Some analysts commented that prior to the Occupy Central
movement from pro-democrats in Hong Kong, Beijing
authorities received a high level Hong Kong business
delegation to settle with business leaders.
Beijing’s tough attitude to Occupy Central may
intensify Hong Kong’s political situation.

One Fifth Hong Kong Residents are Considering Emigration

In recent months, Hong Kongers are torn and increasingly
more worried about the future due to the Chief Executive’s
universal suffrage.

According to the latest survey from September 10 to 17
from Chinese University of Hong Kong, more than one fifth
of Hong Kongers are considering emigration because
of the pessimistic political future.

This is another large-scale emigration in Hong Kong since
the CCP’s forceful suppression on the 1989
Tiananmen Square democracy movement.
