Father of Hanyu Pinyin, “Communist China Must Leave the Stage.”

Zhou Youguang, the famous linguist also known as the
father of Hanyu(Chinese) Pinyin(Pronunciation Markings),
bluntly stated in a recent interview that China will have to
release itself from communism or else its future will be dark.
Previously, he had also pointed out that without a transition to
democracy and freedom, China is bound for violent revolution.
Other scholars believe that Zhou Youguang’s courageous
comments and conduct to abandon the CCP is a great model to intellectuals.

The 106-year-old Zhou Youguang was born
into a wealthy family.
His family lost money three times during the Qing Dynasty,
World War II, and the Cultural Revolution, respectively.

Zhou Youguang accepted a BBC interview in his Beijing home.
Having experienced two centuries, he said seriously,”
China will have to release itself from communism.
The future will be dark if it doesn’t."

In the interview he recalled his troubled life, especially
after 1949 when the CCP established power in China. He was very critical of the CCP regime.

Zhou Youguang admitted that, like many other intellectuals,
he went back to China because he believed the Communist Party
and Mao Zedong when they claimed they were democratic.
Unexpectedly, the CCP engaged in the worst authoritarianism.

Zhao Yuanming, a Chinese Studies expert, pointed out the
Communist tactics – to take advantage of the high achieving intellectuals in order to deceive ordinary people,
but never in fact respect their knowledge and talent.

Zhao Yuanming: “Zhou Youguang enjoys his social status
and prestige, he’s not an ordinary person.
He’s been through political campaigns many times during
the Cultural Revolution, labeled as an academic reactionary, and criticized by the Red Guard."

Zhou Youguang quit the CCP’s Political Consultative
Conference (CPPCC) after the 1989 Tiananmen massacre and cut ties with his acquaintances in the CPPCC.
He has said publicly that the victims of the June 4th massacre
“will surely win justice one day.”

The mainland poet and cultural critic, Ye Kuangzhen: “I think
many older generations of intellectuals in China such as Zhou Youguang are very clear about the situation in China.
These older generation of intellectuals have experienced the
Cultural Revolution, anti-rightist movement, and the’89 massacre.
They have experienced the nature of the Chinese Communists.
Zhou Youguang’s talk should represent the views of most intellectuals."

In recent years, Zhou Youguang has repeatedly and
boldly criticized the Communist authorities.
He indicated that political reform is a must in China.

Without peaceful transition to freedom and democracy,
revolutionary uprising is only a matter of time.

Regarding his sensitive comment about the CCP, Zhou said,
“What are they going to do, come and take me away?"

Zhao Yuanming: “Mr. Zhou Youguang is one example
out of the many intellectuals.
He was able to distinguish between China and
the Chinese Communists.
Patriotism is different from loving the CCP. The Chinese
Communists will lie and persecute you if you love the CCP.
As an intellectual,
Mr. Zhou Youguang has set a great example;
He really understands the CCP’s evil nature and
he frees himself from the CCP’s control. “

Zhou Youguang has received many honors, including the
“father of Hanyu Pinyin”, “Yuzhang Humanities Award".
However, many of his books were banned by the
Communist authorities because of his outspoken nature.
For example, he wrote the book entitled, “Hear the Way”
which was banned by the Central Propaganda Department when he was 104 years old.
The publication was only available in Hong Kong.
