Trial over Killing of Elderly Man During Cultural Revolution

In recent years, many people have suggested the
bringing to justice of Mao Ze Dong, leader of the
Cultural Revolution and former Chairman of
the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).
On Feb. 18th, a man in his 80s was trialed in
Ruian Court in Zhejiang Province.
He was accused of having committed a murder
during the Cultural Revolution.
Outsiders wonder whether a judgment on the
Cultural Revolution is beginning to take shape?
Let’s take a look.

The BBC Chinese version website reported in 1966 that
Mao Zedong had launched the so-called “Cultural Revolution”.
After a decade, the majority of the Chinese people
have been persecuted in varying degrees.
For many Chinese people, the Cultural Revolution
is still a controversial topic.

At the beginning of the Cultural Revolution, conflicts
broke out between different factions of Red Guards,
These conflicts developed into large scale armed fights.
Many people became victims of these fights.

The report said, during the Cultural Revolution in 1967,

an “armed group” suspected a doctor Hong was a spy
sent by an opponent, Qiu was assigned to kill Hong.
The same Qiu used rope to strangle Hong.

Qiu then used a shovel to chop off Hong’s legs in order to
make it easy to bury him, then he buried the corpse in a hole.

Being on the run for decades, now Qiu has reached 80s,
was arrested by Ruian police in Zhejiang in July 2012.
On Feb. 18th, Ruian Court reopened Qiu’s trial.

Media in Mainland China have reported, due to the case
being a civil procedure, a verdict will be issued separately.

The BBC said, China has never publicized how many people
actually died in the Cultural Revolution.
According to British historian Roderick MacFarquhar,
half a million died in 1967 alone.

Not long ago, overseas media reported the crises that
the CCP has to face are from different periods.
These crises are all concentrated in 2013, which is a hard task
for Xi Jinping and Li keqiang’s new leadership to deal with.

The report emphasized that previous movements, such as the
Cultural Revolution had caused damage to many lives and to much national property,
and that these facts are foremost in history.

Bringing the crimes of the Cultural Revolution to a
long awaited final judgment is a top priority now in China.

In 2012, 20 senior public figures signed a joint letter to
the CCP’s 18th Congress.
They urged the complete bringing to justice of Mao Zedong,
the man who launched the Cultural Revolution.

Peng Jiyun, who has experienced the suffering of the Cultural
Revolution, believes that Mao is the person who created the Cultural Revolution.
so Mao should even now take responsibility.

Peng Jiyun: “Mao provoked that mass struggle of the
Chinese people among themselves.
He brought China and it’s people almost to
the point of collapse.
It is the chief criminal who should be punished,
what is the point of only punishing those who are vulnerable?
The crime and it’s victims and perpetrators
should be traced to the original cause.”

Now, a man in his 80’s is being brought to trial
for murder during the Cultural Revolution.
Outsiders are asking: “Has the trial of the
Cultural Revolution itself begun?”

Wen Zhao, the Current Affairs Commentator said, the
national redressing of the Cultural Revolution hasn’t been implemented yet. This is an isolated case.

Wen Zhao: “During the Cultural Revolution,
many tragedies that were unusual and cruel took place.
Under that circumstance, although this elderly man directly
killed a person, he actually only followed the order, Mao is the person who responsible.”

Wen Zhao has pointed out that the criminal head of the
Cultural Revolution’s portrait is still hanging on Tiananmen Square, he is still treated as a god.
And now, an 80-year-old man has been sentenced
for a crime that was really committed by Mao.

Wen Zhao: “That huge disaster damaged the whole of China,
it was Mao’s responsibility.
But Mao’s portrait is still hanging over there!
How can he be treated like a God?”

In May 2012, Tie Liu, a Beijing writer published a letter,

he suggested victims of Anti-Rightist Movement in 1957
should unite and sue Mao Zedong, who committed crimes of sabotaging the law, ignoring life and killing.

In the letter, Tie Liu demanded the removal of all of
Mao’s leftist units.
Mao’s corpse and portrait must be removed from
Tiananmen Square.
Tie Liu said, he will never give up if these goals
cannot be achieved!

Before the CCP’s 18th Congress, four men in Zhengzhou
in Henan Province tore up Mao’s pictures in full public view,
then uploaded the torn pictures on line.

Shi Da, the Current Affairs Commentator said, the thugs
implemented CCP’s orders, but the CCP always “burns the bridge”.
Shi warns the CCP’s thugs, to leave a way out,
as the most unlucky persons are those who carry the can.
