CCP Empty Talks Ridiculed

Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao talked about
political reform in a press conference after
the ‘two meetings’, but no action plan or timeline
was given. Wen remarked that political reform
in China would be a “gradual process”,
which was interpreted by some
as deceiving the people with a hoax.

After the ‘two meetings’, Wen Jiabao answered
questions regarding political and economical
reforms in China during a press conference.

Wen said on Mar 14, that the biggest crisis
in China today is corruption. To eliminate
corruption, political reform must be
“carried out systematically under the
leadership of the party”.

Senior Chinese journalist, Gao Yu: “The single-party
system means the party has all the power.
The party monopolizes the economy and politics.
The two meetings are full of lies.
Political reform means changing the political system.
The party says itself that corruption is caused
by the system. Can the political system be reformed
under the leadership of the CCP?
The so-called ‘reform’ is just changes to the
administrations in the end.
I don’t believe it will be fruitful.”

Wen also talked about public supervision
of the government.

Human right organizations say the police are
arresting more dissidents. During the
‘two meetings’, over 100 dissidents were
detained without trial, including human rights
lawyers Tang Jitian, Teng Biao,
and Jiang Tianyong.

Gao Yu: “I believe reform is impossible under
the CCP regime. The party controls everything,
and is corrupt. The whole system is running on
layers and layers of corrupt officials.
So now there’s no trust in the government anymore.”

In the past year, Wen Jiaobao talked frequently
about political reform. Last August, Wen gave
similar speech in Shenzhen; in September,
Wen talked about political reform to New York media
during his visit to the U.S.

Chinese democracy activist, Mu Chuanheng:
“Wen Jiaobao is within the system.
Of course, he would give such speeches;
otherwise, he would not be able to stay in power.”

Wen’s talk on political reform during this year’s
’two meetings’ triggered speculations as to whether
it was Wen’s personal opinion or an agreement
among central leaders of the CCP.

Prof. Yang Liyu from Seton Hall University:
”The cruel reality is the single-party regime
of the CCP. No matter how Wen Jiabao talks
about political reform, he will not say anything
against the single-party system.
He cannot break through this barrier.”

Chinese people say that the party has been talking
about “gradual reform” for 30 years, but no action
has been taken. It has become a habit for the CCP
to deceive the people with empty talks.
The ‘two meetings’ are only for show.
Chinese people are still waiting
for the corrupt regime to fall.
