Liu Ping Appeals Over Trial For Asking Officials To
Declare Their Property Interests

On the day when Transparency International published its
corrupt countries rankings of 2013, three Chinese citizens in
Jiangxi, Liu Ping, Wei Zhongping, and Li Sihua, were on trial
for calling on officials to make their property declarations.

BBC Chinese report revealed that the defendants’ attorney
Pu Zhiqiang said fair trial principles were seriously violated
and the legal rights of the legal counsel and defendants were
compromised on the day of the trial.

The court was heavily guarded outside.

Lawyers coming to show solidarity to the victims were
harassed, and many activists were missing.
The 12 witnesses, either under surveillance or house arrest
by the police, cannot get to the courtroom to testify.

As a result, the court was adjourned. A retrial
is planned on Dec. 4.

Two Died At Suzhou Demolition Conflict

On Dec. 3, serious conflict occurred during forced demolitions
in Suzhou National New & Hi-tech Industrial Development
Zone. Two demolition officers were killed and three residents
were injured.

Human rights lawyer Liu Xiaoyuan published the news online.

At noon more than a dozen unidentified people broke into Fan
Mugen’s home to evict them, beating his wife and children.
Fan Mugen stabbed two people; one of them died at the scene.
The other died in the hospital.
His wife’s right arm was broken and she’s in the hospital.

Radio Free Asia reported, according to Fan Mugen’s
daughter-in-law that the conflict arose when the demolition
team went into the house attacking them with electric batons.

She said five or six of them were hitting Fan’s head
with the electric batons.
Fan’s wife tried to stop them with her hands,
and her arm was broken.

Liu Xiaoyuan told Radio Free Asia that this case, resulting in
two deaths and three injuries, is a rarely seen major anti-
