¥400,000 to a Dampen Voice? The Truth of Yuan Liya´s Death is Still a Mystery

Yuan Liya, a young lady from Lujang County, Anhui Province,
fell from the top of “Wenjiang Shopping Center”.
Yuan´s case has caused widespread public attention.
On May 11th, the state-run media claimed that
an agreement had been reached between
Yuan´s family and “Wenjiang Shopping Center”.
Yuan´s family will accept 400,000 Chinese Yuan as compensation.
Under strong pressure from the public to know what happened,
the authorities have also released a few monitoring videos
of the shopping center at that time.
Nevertheless, has the truth been fully exposed?
Please read the following detailed report.

Regarding Yuan Liya, a non-local girl working in Beijing,
who fell from a building, the authorities claimed that
Yuan “committed suicide by jumping off the building herself”
on May 9th. On May 11th, the authorities again claimed that
the possibilities of Yuan´s being poisoned, sexually abused
and killed by others had been excluded.
It was declared that Yuan´s body had been cremated and that
Yuan´s family had accepted 400,000 Yuan as compensation.

The website “People.com.cn” stated that there were some
unclear irregularities in the management of “Jingwen Shopping Center”
(this is where Yuan Liya worked before she died),
so a amount of compensation should be made.

Chai Baowen, human right activist in Anhui Province,

questioned why “Jinwen Shopping Center” had to pay any
compensation if Yuan Liyan had committed suicide.
It´s very obvious that money was being used
to smooth things over.

Yuan Xingcai, Yuan Liya´s uncle, said that Yuan´s family
didn´t get the 400,000 Chinese Yuan compensation yet,
but were asked to cremate the body first and clean things up.

Yuan Xingcai: “The authority asked us to bury Yuan Liya today.
I don´t know whether or not they would pay us ¥400,000.
We don´t know yet.
They didn´t give us a definite answer yet.”

Upon receiving a demand from the public for the truth,´

Beijing Public Security Bureau have released a few segments
of the monitor video before Yuan Liya fell off the building.

Based on the pictures from the CCTV news,
the first video segment shows that
Yuan Liya alone turned up in the building´s
northwestern corner at 10:34pm on May 2nd.
In one minute, she turned on the light and went into a room.
The door of the room was open, with the light on for this time.
Then, 20 minutes later,
she turned off the light and walked out of the room.

The second segment showed that Yuan Liya walked to the spot
where she fell off by taking the stairs at 4:19am on May 3rd.

From the 2nd video segment, Yuan Liya acted normally
she didn´t look upset or as though she wanted to commit suicide.
Why did Yuan Liya stay in the center building that night?
What happened during the 11 hours from her entering
the building to falling off the building?
Why did she drop off the building?
All of those questions are still without an answer.

Chai Baowen: “When Yuan Liya got into the building,
she wore a skirt. During the 11 hours, what did she do?
Did she make any phone calls?

Did she get in touch with anyone? All of this information
can be found out by checking telephone company records.
It doesn´t require high technology to find out the truth.

It´s even more suspicious that Yuan´s body was cremated
in a hurry without any hint of a proper criminal check.”

Last Thursday Chai Bowen visited Yuan Liya´s hometown,
Lujiang County. Local police and stability maintenance staff forced him to leave.
On his way back, he was secretly followed
by police in civilian clothes.

Commentator Xing Tianxing: “From the tight control
of public information on Yuan Liya´s case,
there must be something that the authorities want to hide.

Whereas, that part is exactly what is questioned by people,
to a certain extent, for need of maintaining stability,
authorities have been controlling the media.
Any other voices are regarded as rumors.”

Some internet citizens, including Li Kaifu, have published
letters of “Statement of Never Committing Suicide”
on internet to express their dissatisfaction over how the
authorizes have dealt with Yuan Liya case and have kept details hidden.

Last year, a lot of people asked for an investigation into
the death of Li Wangyang, activist in Hunan Province.
At that time, a lot of people started writing
“Statement of Never Committing Suicide” on the internet.
The statement says “we would never kill ourselves.
Once we are dead, and official statements are made,
we hope our families won´t believe in the conclusion
of “suicide” given by the authorities as reason for death.”
