The Party Newspaper Keeps Quiet on Jiang Zemin’s Birthday

A few days ago, the former general secretary
of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP),
Chairman Jiang Zemin, wrote an article to the “People’s Daily"
to celebrate his 86 birthday, but the CCP newspaper was silent.
Four days later, “People’s Daily" published an article
by the former minister of the Electronics Industry, touting Jiang Zemin’s contribution to the Electronics Industry.
Foreign media think these moves show the delicate situation
and the fierce power struggle of the 18th Congress.

“China Information Center for Human Rights and Democracy,"
recently quoted the words of a senior media person, who said
that someone sent in an article written by Jiang
to be published on his birthday.
However, the article did not appear in People’s Daily
on Aug. 17, Jiang’s birthday.
The media person believed that it was very abnormal
and shows that fierce power struggle is within the party before the 18th Congress.

After October 10, 2011, Jiang Zemin did not make any TV
appearances.
A retired doctor from PLA General Hospital said that Jiang
underwent surgery for liver cancer.
Sun Wenguang, a former professor of Shandong University,
believes that Jiang Zemin has committed numerous crimes and is waiting for his own trial.
As his power erodes, his cohorts grow further and further
away from him.

Sun Wenguang: “Jiang’s faction, including the direct
descendant of Jiang Zemin and his followers, are losing power.
Many of the members of Jiang’s faction in the Politburo
Standing Committee have stepped down this time
before the 18th Conference, such as Wu Bangguo,
Jia Qinglin, Li Changchun and Zhou Yongkang.
Many people are very clear about the current situation,
so they did not actively celebrate his birthday like in the past.”

Sun Wenguang points out that Jiang Zemin moved up
entirely by participating in the “June 4th massacre",
bloody suppression of the World Economic Herald,
and toadying up to Deng Xiaoping and Chen Yun.
Since then, Jiang insisted on the persecution of Falun Gong.

As a result, countless people lost their lives, have been
rendered disabled, and are illegally detained in prisons.
Jiang reversed Zhao Ziyang’s reform and channeled power
into the Politics and Law Committee.
Thus, he has totally bankrupted the judiciary system.

Writer Tie Liu thinks the Bo Xilai case was a turning point
in the fading power of Jiang.
Jiang is condemned in the party.
Therefore, a lot of people stay away from him.

Author Tie Liu: “Jiang is unpopular for a few reasons.
First is Jiang’s old age.
Even though he can still think, he can hardly move
and is like a withering flower.
Secondly, the Bo Xilai case hit Jiang quite hard.
As a result, Jiang’s inner circle is splitting.
Third, Hu Jiantao is gaining more power.”

On Aug. 21, People’s Daily published an article by Zhang Ting,
the former Minister of the Electronics Industry.
Touting the book, Jiang Zemin at the Ministry
of Electronics Industry,
he praised Jiang Zemin for his contribution to
the development of China’s electronic industry.

However, it was pointed out that this is inconsistent
with the facts, because after June 4th,
the former Politburo Standing Committee member Hu Qili
had to step down for supporting students.
The development of the Chinese electronics industry
was extremely difficult at that time.
Thus, Hu Qili was asked to serve as minister of Ministry
of Electronics Industry from 1993-1998.
Hu started the reform of the electronic industry in China,
the establishment of the China Unicom,
and the implementation of the separation of
postal services and telecommunications.
Hu opened the integrated circuit development plan
to break through the bottleneck of the development of the electronic information industry.

Sun Wenguang said that Jiang had nothing to show for his
period of rule, so he has to find something to write about in a history book.
Sun Wenguang: “Two factions are fighting and
Jiang’s faction has not been totally purged.
Thus, people from both factions will attempt to fill all positions.
Jiang needs to show something and get some support.”
It was pointed out that Jiang Zemin’s confidants, such as
Wu Bangguo, Jia Qinglin, Li Changchun and Zhou Yongkang,
Bo Xilai, Zeng Qinghong, Liu Jinbao, Chen Weigao,
Chen Liangyu, and Liu Zhijun are all billionaires.
Under Jiang’s leadership, prices soared and a large number
of state-owned assets were lost.
Ordinary people had no health coverage and
corrupt officials were everywhere.
Society and morals took a rapid turn for the worst.
Thus, Jiang will forever be remembered as notorious.
