Facebook

The Chinese Communist Party Censors WeChat

Upon the arrival of the 25th anniversary of June 4,

the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) implemented

a one-month special WeChat operation focusing

on “public accounts.”

Some analysts say that WeChat quickly became

widely popular in China, and the CCP has seen the threats.

However, suppressing public opinion

can only accelerate the CCP´s collapse.

On May 27, the Beijing News reported that three ministries

jointly held a meeting in which they announced

the launch of a one-month operation to censor WeChat

with a particular emphasis on “public accounts,” which

have spread quickly and play a powerful communication

and social promotion role.

Sources say that seven large companies including Tencent,

WeChat, and China Telecom Yixin promised to positively

cooperate with this decision.

They also issued 10 suggestions,

emphasizing the real name policy.

Liu Yiming, Wuhan journalist of China magazine: “Since

last year, the regime controls Weibo increasingly tightly.

Many Weibo users moved to WeChat, so WeChat

has become the biggest sharing platform for the public,

particularly for sharing information among friends.

So, the CCP considered it as a big threat to its ideology.

Now is the time for the CCP to stop it.

WeChat´s “public accounts” have attracted many netizens,

Thus the CCP starts from here.”

Shan´anxi resident Ms Wang: “First, it obviously shows

its desire to further control people´s freedom of expression;

secondly, the CCP chose to start this right before

the June 4 anniversary.

It´s linked with June 4 events.

The CCP also says it´s to avoid infiltration

of overseas hostile forces.

Frankly speaking, the CCP is afraid of its ugly, dark nature

being exposed, and it is afraid that if the truth is spread,

more people will awaken.”

WeChat is a mobile text and voice messaging service

developed by Tencent in 2011.

Sources say that WeChat has over 800 million users,

and more than 3 million public accounts.

The regime censored WeChat three years ago.

On March 13, two days after CCP´s two sessions closed,

more than 30 public accounts were suddenly deleted,

including those of NetEast, Caixin, Caijing and others.

On April 14, People´s Daily accused WeChat of being

full of rumors and wrong ideas.

On May 12, China´s Central Television introduced an article,

which was widely circulated among friends.

The program took this article as an example, and criticized

WeChat´s public accounts, saying they had become a place

of rumor and false advertisement.

The program also said the owners of these public accounts

have received “serious punishment.”

Wu Fei, Professor at the School of Journalism &

Communication, Jinan University, told NTD Television

that from now on, the regime will tactically

censor WeChat step by step.

Wu Fei says that China and Russia have gradually cooperated

closely with each other, as the CCP understands

that social media played an important role during

Russia´s “Color Revolution.”

Zhu Xinxin, former editor of Hebei Radio: “The regime´s

launch of this measure shows that the CCP is weak inside.

If the CCP is afraid of people´s free voice

and a little criticism, then there is no 『legitimacy foundation』 left any more.

The regime´s decision is also very stupid.

It again proves that the CCP is the common people´s enemy.

The CCP believes that in order to stabilize its power,

it needs suppression and violence.

However, its actions can only isolate itself more and more.”

Zhu Xinxin points out that the CCP suppression of expression

on the Internet can only hasten its collapse.

Zhu Xinxin: “It is impossible that the CCP´s move

will stop the people´s democratic voice.

The current social conflict in China is very sharp,

civilians´ consciousness and thought have unprecedentedly

opened up and improved, the regime can´t control it,

thus the CCP´s new measures can only accelerate

its collapse.”

Netizens said on Weibo that the CCP´s move can only cause

the Chinese people depression, forcing people to run into

the U.S.´s arms, and aid in the development of overseas

anti-blockage software.

Actually, it is government officials who need to be monitored

the most.

In the end, people will use their feet to vote.
