Facebook

Chen Guangcheng Arrives in NY: Justice Has No Borders

The famous blind human rights activist Chen Guangcheng

and his family finally left Beijing on May 19.

After he arrived in New York, Chen Guangcheng made a brief speech and said,

“Fairness and justice have no boundaries."

It is commented that this is a victory of liberal values.

The Chen Guangcheng incident also reveals the fact that

the U.S. government intervention in China’s human rights

issues will not affect bilateral activities in economy and trade.

Around 11:00am of May 19, Chen Guangcheng suddenly got

a message to pack up and leave Beijing Chaoyang Hospital.

In about two hours, Chen Guangcheng and his family made

their way to the airport.

Chen Guangcheng told Hong Kong’s Ming Pao Daily News

in a telephone interview at the airport that instead of feeling relaxed,

he was filled with emotion when leaving China.

As for whether or not to return, he said, “I do not know

when, but I will certainly come back."

Before 6pm, Chen and his family boarded United Airlines

Flight number 88 from Beijing to Newark International Airport.

At 7:45 EST, Chen Guangcheng appeared in New York University

made a brief speech to the press and thanked all

for their concerns and help.

He said, “Fairness and justice have no boundaries."

Chen Guangcheng: “I think ordinary people should take it as their

responsibility to the society; world’s leaders should also

have the aspiration to, “Encourage those that serve well

the people, eliminate those that harm the people."

Blind human rights activist Chen Guangcheng is a self-taught

lawyer and engages in helping people defend their rights in family-planning policy.

He had been imprisoned by authorities of Linyi, Shandong for four years.

After being released, he was remained under house arrest

at his home in Dongshigu Village.

He miraculously succeeded in escaping from home and fled

to the U.S. Embassy in Beijing on April 26.

After so many hardships, Chen Guangcheng and his family

have finally arrived in a free country.

People from all walks of life express their support

and blessings to Chen Guangcheng.

Political commentator Cao Changqing, “I am very pleased

to see the news that Chen has arrived in the United States,

because it represents a very important signal.

What does it represent?

The value of freedom has won."

Cao Changqing believes that Chen’s unremitting combat has

overcome a despotic regime, and earned freedom for himself and his family.

This is a great inspiration to others.

After Chen Guangcheng’s escape, the Shandong authorities

arrested Chen’s nephew Chen Kegui to blackmail Chen Guangcheng

into keep a low profile after leaving the country.

Cao Changqing: “Past experience has proved that only by

revealing loud and clear the true China under CCP’s rule and

the cruelty of the CCP’s governing will you gain support

by the international community.

Beijing fears nothing except more (truth) exposed, it’s this

strength the CCP fears and would likely make concessions."

Dr. Yang Jianli, Chairman of Civil Force organization told

NTD TV that Chen Guangcheng’s case shattered a misconception.

Civil Force Chairman Yang Jianli: “People have long believed that

if the U.S. engages in human rights issues with China,

it will affect Sino-US relations, trade and other aspects

between China and the United States.

However, Chen’s case made it clear: Even though the U.S.

has been involved in such human rights case with so much effort,

bilateral relations have not been affected."

After Chen fled to the U.S. Embassy, China promised and ensured

Chen’s freedom in the country, and thus Chen went

to Beijing Chaoyang Hospital.

Fearing Chen’s stay in China might be more detrimental,

Zhou Yongkang and his Politics and Law Committee system

conducted intimidation and threatened Chen’s family.

Out of desperation, Chen was forced to leave

for the United States.

Commentator Jason: “If Hu and Wen allow the (CCP)

internal split continues in both external and internal issues,

the potential threat to China’s future is huge."

The Epoch Times has reported that Gordon Chang, a China expert,

believes Chen Guangcheng was supposed to have achieved better results.

That is, to stay in China with security assurance for him and

his family according to his original wishes.
