Maoming People Visit the Government Again Seeking
Justice For the Dead

It has been 6 days since Guangdong Maoming anti-PX protest.

On April 4, many demonstrators surrounded the government
building again to seek justice for those killed in the conflict.
The protest started from noon until the evening and things
progressed peacefully.

The people showed pictures of two young men who
were killed in the conflict.

In the closed-door press conference on April 3, authorities
described the people who were beaten up by police as
accidently injured and no deaths were announced.

This provoked the peoples’ anger. They exposed the real
scenes with photos and videos.

On April 4, local people told NTD that police had two young
men dead.
They blocked the area with the police car at the entrance
of McDonalds in the Maoming Lake mall, even not allowing
the ambulance to get through.

An online video showed dozens of police were
beating up one man.

Reporters Were Driven Away From the Maoming Interview.

Hong Kong Journalists Association issued a statement on
April 4 to protest that Hong Kong reporters were made to
delete interview data and sign restricting documents by the
Maoming police when they were covering the anti-PX event.

The statement said that Hong Kong reporters of Apple Daily
and Ming Pao Daily News were also then deported back to
Hong Kong.

Hong Kong Journalists Association believes Maoming police
restricted press freedom and invaded the Media’s
intellectual property rights.

They called on the Chinese Communist Party to protect Hong
Kong reporters’ interview rights in mainland China to reflect
the constitutional guarantees on freedom of speech and press.

United Nations: Don’t Repatriate Uyghur Refugees in Thailand

On April 3, British Financial Times reported China has stepped
up pressure on Thai authorities to repatriate over 400 Uyghur
refugees who have been detained as illegal immigrants.

These refugees include more than 60 children fleeing from the
increasingly restless Chinese territory of Xinjiang.

The U.S., Europe and the UN are urging the Thai government
not to send back the large immigrants group to China in
case they receive severe punishment.

A head of Human Rights Watch said that according to past
persecution of previously repatriated Uyghurs, these people
will face a great risk in China if they are sent back.
