The People’s Daily Claims Landing on the Diaoyu Islands Was Harmful to China

The Japanese branch manager of the Chinese Communist
Party’s (CCP) mouthpiece, People’s Daily, published an article recently.
The article criticized those who landed on the Diaoyu Islands,
saying it wasn’t behavior of pro-China and was harmful.
This opinion not only stirred up netizens criticism but also
was condemned by activists in support of protecting Diaoyu Islands (Uotsuri Jima).

On August 24, Han Xiaoqing, head of the People’s Daily
Japanese branch, published an article which claimed
that maintaining Sino-Japan’s solid relationship
is very important to China.
China’s urgent national strategy isn’t to take
the Diaoyu Islands back, the article stated.
If we raise the issue of the disputed island, turning our back
on Japan, China will lose the chance of strategic development.
That will be something regretted by future generations.

Han’s comments caused criticism
and he was cursed by netizens.
Netizens commented that his article was written by
a “typical traitor.”
Some people pointed out that the CCP is useless towards
other countries, but deceives people internally, selling the country out in the name of “maintaining stability”.

Hong Kong activists for protecting the Diaoyu Islands said
that Han’s comments won’t be accepted by the majority of Chinese.

1960’s World Map Shows the Diaoyu Islands As Belonging to Japan

According to Japanese media, New Komeito Party member
Junji Higashi, in a parliament meeting, showed a world map from 1960.
On the map, the Diaoyu Islands were named the Senkaku Islands,
and were marked as part of Japan’s territory.

Junji Higashi said that the map came from
the Washington Post.
The map, published in 1960 by the Chinese regime,
marked the Diaoyu Islands as the Senkaku Islands.
In addition, the color of the border is in the same color
as Japan’s border.

Junji Higashi believes that at least in 1960s,
the CCP accepted the Islands as belonging to Japan.
