Major Internet Blockade in China

Recently, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has been
blocking the internet with unusual craziness and
uses despicable means to deal with dissidents and
independent media.
Analysts pointed out that it means that CCP has entered
a highly sensitive period,
so it is trying to control internet access
and international media attention given to the mainland situation.
Speculation points to it possibly being related to the upcoming
“Oct. 1st” and centennial anniversary of The Revolution of 1911.
There are rumors that CCP may announce
the death of Jiang Zemin around Oct. 1.

Recently, it is even harder for netizens of mainland to visit
overseas websites.
It is reported that since Sept.14, there is an inability to access
overseas websites using the Great Fire Wall (GFW) prison-break tools.
According to the latest statistics, the number of people browsing
the web over the GFW is now less than a half.

Former reporter from China’s Private Businesses magazine,
columnist Liu Yiming :”It is obvious that internet access is blocked heavily these days.
All GFW prison-break tools,
such as FreeGate, FreeU and DynamicPass, are invalid.
Now, it is extremely hard to visit overseas websites.
According to my estimation, it is related to ‘Oct. 1’,
the so called National Day, and centennial anniversary of The Revolution of 1911.
A similar situation happened before when a sensitive date was nearing. ”

Dissident Shao Ying believed this unusual internet blockade
demonstrates that it is a sensitive period for the CCP and it is afraid of international media attention.
Rumors spread on the internet also said the CCP might
announce the death of Jiang Zemin around “Oct. 1”.

Shao: “Two days ago, I felt that CCP was testing
(how to block internet access).
This morning, I made a great effort to access,
but after a while, I lost the connection.
I thought it was a blockade rehearsal for incoming
18th National Congress during National Day.
If it works well, then CCP will block internet access.
Maybe they will announce the death of Jiang soon.
This is very sensitive, and they feel the need to step up
the blockade as soon as possible. ”

Computers of dissidents are also targeted.
The Skype account of Wuhan dissident Qin Yongmin was found hacked on Sept. 15th.
Someone used his account to send suspicious software to
people on his contact list.
Qin said it was obvious that they wanted to use this software
to hack into others’ computers.

Meanwhile, CCP spies provided bogus news trying to
frame up independent media.

Chairman of China Tianwang Human Rights Information Center,
Huang Qi:” Someone told us that there was a crackdown in Zhejiang Province,
and then sent us a lot of pictures with dead people,
saying local authorities shot people to death.
We (Tiangwang) made contact with local people and
proved this piece of news is totally bogus.
Of course, we understand authorities’ purpose,
they simply just want us to publish false information, and then set us up. ”

People have pointed out that this internet blockade
by CCP is extraordinary.
It is the most serious one since 2009.
It means CCP has entered a highly sensitive period.
Currently, no one can predict what will happen
during this sensitive period.
What’s for sure is that CCP is so terrified by netizens’ ability
to gain information freely and the spreading of truth.
With their guilty consciences,
they try to cover their tracks using any means.
