Chinese Condemn Media Exploiting Guo Meimei to Absolve Red Cross

The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) mouthpiece media
showed Guo Meimei apologizing in long detail for her flashy
antics, including prostitution, gambling, and mistress life.

They also claimed that she has nothing to do
with China Red Cross.
Chinese mainlanders are condemning the CCP for
shamelessly making a show of and hyping up the lady’s story
to distract attention from a recent spate of big incidents
and clear the name of Red Cross.

On August 3, Beijing police confirmed Guo and others
have been under criminal detention at the Beijing Municipal Public
Security Bureau on suspicion of gambling since July 14.
On July 24, Guo’s “godfather,” Shenzhen businessman
Wang Jun was also detained in Beijing.

In the past two days, CCP mouthpiece Xinhua News Agency,

People’s Daily, China Central TV and so on
reported on Guo’s story at unusually great length.
They claimed Guo is the mistress of Wang Jun, who offered
Guo more than $8,000 each time and bought her a car
worth nearly $40,000.

The reports also claimed these two people aren’t connected to
the Red Cross, and the Red Cross incident was fabricated.

The reports say Guo is addicted to gambling, and made profits
by setting up gambling rings and pulling acquaintances into it.
The reports say her private life is very messy,
involving lots of prostitution behind closed doors,
with Guo making upwards of $16,000 each time.

The report also said 23-year-old Guo was born into a single-
parent family in Yiyang, Hunan province.
I claimed her dad has been convicted of fraud,
her mom is engaged in some leisure services including
a sauna and bathhouse, tea ceremonies and so on; her aunt
was once detained on suspicion of harboring prostitutes;
and her uncle was sentenced for drug trafficking.

The mouthpiece media’s actions were shocking to a lot people.

Fujian netizen Qu Gan says that, at most,
Guo is involved in prostitution and gambling.
Qu says it’s distasteful for the party media to spend so much
effort to reveal this scandal of one girl.

Wu Gan: “As a public authority, it’s very shameless to have
Guo’s face plastered on TV in such a way, publicizing her trial
and her family members’ histories.

I feel very disgusted by the whole thing.”

Beijing constitutional scholar Chen Yongmiao says that the
problem with China’s Red Cross is its corruption.
The authorities didn’t stop at putting all responsibility on Guo,
but also discredited her family members,
without any investigating of China’s Red Cross,
which will only blacken its name further.

Chen Yongmiao: “I read the news and found many obvious
flaws, such as Guo receiving several hundred thousand yuan
for each prostitution visit.

The reports didn’t ease people’s doubts on the Red Cross,
but instead increased suspicion of it."

Chen says the publishing of the incident with Guo at this point
is to cover up recent waves of big events and quell discontent.

Chen Yongmiao: “The impact of the Yunnan earthquake,
the car factory explosion in Kunshan and Zhou Yongkang case
are concealed by the Guo Meimei event.

They report this minor issue to cover up the pointed issues.”

However, the mainland netizens don’t trust the Party
mouthpiece reports.
Some netizens are questioning, who is Red Cross’s director?

Why must Red Cross’s name be cleared by persecuting Guo
in such a roundabout way?
It seems they are protecting someone.

Some netizens say the hype up of Guo Meimei is because the
Red Cross will collect donations again.

Back to June of 2011, then 20-year-old Guo showed off her
wealth online on social media and claimed herself as
the commercial general manager of China’s Red Cross.

It sparked public distrust of China’s Red Cross,
which has followed it for years.

Last year, China’s Red Cross called for donations on Weibo
microblog after an earthquake in Ya’an, Sichuan Province.
In less than two days, they received
more than 140 thousand posts saying “get lost."
China’s Red Cross then announced
it would re-investigate the events surrounding Guo.

Guo responded saying that she has evidence of scandals of
high-level officials, which she has sent to the United States.
Later, the secretary general of China’s Red Cross said:
“No one from the Red Cross said Guo Meimei would be reinvestigated."

For a while, guesses on which important person it was that
Guo had evidence on became a hot topic on China’s Internet.

U.S.-based Epoch Times reported that Politburo Standing
Committee member Liu Yunshan and his son are involved
in the events with Guo.

The report says that in 2004, Liu placed his son Liu Lefei into
China Life Insurance Company as the general manager
of the investment management department,
in charge of more than $80.9 billion worth of insurance assets.

In July of 2006, Liu Lefei made huge profits on charity money
as Chief Investment Officer.
The “fraternity station” implicated in the Guo Meimei event,
is Liu Lefei’s charity project to make money.
