Violence Leaves 11 Dead After Police Shot a Uyghur Youth

On Nov. 16, Xinjiang saw another case of ‘violent attacks’
when nine Uyghur people with knives and axes attacked
a police station in Bachu county, leading to 11 deaths.

The World Uyghur Congress spokesman says that
the incident erupted after police used electric batons to beat
the young Uyghur protesters and shot one to death.

Chinese Communist Party mouthpiece media report say that
at 5:30pm on Nov. 16th, nine Uyghurs with knives and axes
raided a police station in Bachu county, killing two policemen.
The nine attackers were gunned down onsite.

Dilxat Raxit, the World Uyghur Congress spokesman:
“We were told by the locals that (the CCP’s) armed
police used electric batons to beat some Uyghurs who
went to protest at the police station.
The clash erupted after a Uyghur youth was shot dead.

The eight other protesters were subsequently killed when
the CCP’s armed police opened fire on the protesters."

World Uyghur Congress spokesman Dilxat Raxit says
the clash left two police officers killed and two wounded.
More than 30 Uyghur protesters were arrested.

An anonymous resident of Bachu county: “Martial law and
searches began on the streets a few hours after the incident.
The entire county’s police force was dispatched, including
traffic police, armed police, SWAT teams and public security."

An anonymous resident of Bachu County: “All of the police
forces are still doing searches right now."

Another resident of Bachu County says that the attackers
drove into the police station, and that it must be a retaliation.
She says that the police have been searching for suspects.

A resident of Bachu County: “They have been patrolling
every day and checking everyone’s identification.
Usually they don’t check Han people, only the Uyghurs."

Xinjiang has suffered from frequent riots in recent years.
The most severe incident was the July 2009 Urumqi riots.
The riots broke out on July 5 and left a total of 197 dead
and over 1,700 injured.
Another similar riot happened in Bachu County on April 23
of this year, leaving 21 people dead.
About six months later, the car crash in Tiananmen Square
that was blamed on “Uyghurs terrorists"
killed five and injured 38.

The CCP has labeled all of these riots as terrorism.

Hu Jia, Beijing activist: “What are causes of these riots?
The CCP is never self critical.
I believe the Uyghurs have been under pressure for a very long
time since the CCP came to power.
The underlying anger from the pressure has indeed intensified
the ethnic conflicts (between the Han and the Uyghurs.)"

In July this year, during the holy month of Ramadan,
many Uyghur families were put under strict supervision.
Arrests those who attended the mosque
or gathered at home faced arrest.
Recently, the CCP ordered lawyers not to grow long beards.
Those who don’t sign the pledge to follow the order
face investigation or risk losing their license to practice law.

They are also required to guarantee that family
and relatives do not wear burqas, veils
or participate in ‘illegal’ religious activities.

Beijing activist Hu Jia says that the CCP has repressed
the Uyghurs in all aspects.
He takes Ilham Toht, an ethnic-Uyghur Chinese economist
at Minzu University of China, as an example.

Hu Jia: “He is the only spokesman for the Uyghurs in Beijing.
And yet, he has been violently attacked by the CCP police.
They attacked him through a car crash and
have threatened the lives of his family members.
You can tell who is really the gangster and the terrorist."

After the Tiananmen car crash, Ilham Toht received
death threats because he accepted foreign media interview.
He wrote a will saying incase he dies or goes missing,
he begs his family not to blame the Han, but the CCP.

Dilxat Raxit: “One thing to be certain. Since China’s so-called
judicial reforms, local armed police have been using excessive
violence to repress Uyghur protesters.

I again call on international community to take emergency
measures to stop the Chinese government from directly
opening fire to suppress Uyghur protesters."

Dilxat Raxit says that the repression has turned so explosive
that the CCP would open fire to repress the Uyghurs,
making Uyghur people feel unsafe even sitting home.
