“Generous” magazine was forced to stop publication

“Generous” magazine made a formal announcement of
“forced stopping of publication”, after publishing two issues.
To commemorate his “Solo Group”, which was ordered to
stop after publishing one issue, and “Generous” magazine,
renowned writer Han Han posted a blog article criticizing
the censorship system of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).
However, the article was soon “harmonized“ by the CCP.

Generous magazine posted a notice on its official website,
advising,
“An instruction on November 1 ordered Generous
to stop publication."

Some people think that Generous』 publication being stopped
may have been because it issued journal with a book number (ISBN) thereby incurring sanction.
Member of the Editorial Board, Zhi』an, said that
this possibility had not been ruled out.
But Generous was defined as an edition of diversified anthology,
and never alleged to be a magazine.
How are “issuing publication with book number" and
“edition of diversified anthology" defined?
the official department concerned has never expressly
specified the difference between two.

Netizen Banxia Suye sighed, I just do not know
why the more valuable magazines such as Generous, and Solo Group, cannot be allowed to publish?
Don’t tell me the magazines with a little literary significance
can only have a suspended fate.

Netizen Taidong Town said in a posting,
that all the channels of free thinking and expression are blocked.
Another netizen commented, “the great development and
prosperity of socialist culture" means that culture is controlled more severely.

Han Han, a renowned writer, said in his blog post,
In China, a publication can be made only with a book number,
but only the publishing house are eligible to issue the book number,
while the authorities are the only owner of the publishing house.
So, from the source, free publication is in fact not possible.

Han Han said that from his first book, Triple Gate, to
the suspended magazine Solo Group,
and even up until to now, every article published online
would disappear the next day. It was really disappointing.

Yemei Yao, a member of Editorial Board of Generous, said
Taiwan publishers would feel it incredible that
the authorities had officially ordered suspension of
such a publication with millions of the first issue sold,
regardless of it’s content and thinking,
but the Beijing publisher, to my surprise, did not get angry!
That』s why I particularly appreciate Han Han,
under such a political system, he can at least get angry.

After Han Han’s article was deleted, netizens left messages.
A confused netizen asked why couldn』t I see the text?
Another netizen replied right away that It had been deleted.

Many netizens responded angrily:
The article was again river-crabbed. (Homophone of harmonized)

Han』s deleted article has attracted nearly 64 million hits,
and has been successfully reproduced over 4,000 times.
Netizen Pulanke even made an “anti-harmony backup".
As he does not know Han Han, he cannot apply for reproduction permission.
So he hopes the article will not suffer a “forced disappearance”,
letting netizens find the article online, and allowing the truth to not be concealed.

Earlier, in 2011, a tidal wave of magazine and book
founders, with extensive media coverage, emerged potential problems.
To get a serial number (ISSN), these youth magazines have
to remain consistent with the authorities』 tone.
It does not rule out the links to “the capability” of
behind-the-scene supporters of the publishing group.

Taiwan’s New Classical Culture chief editor, Yemei Yao,
posted in the face book, I feel it is difficult to love the era of publishing in today』s China.
Fu Yue』an, a veteran publisher said,
“This is a country that compels people to
establish underhanded connection,
to pull strings, to handle matters following hidden rules.

Han Han wrote online, I do not know how such a country,
in which a civilized person shakes with fear when writing articles, can be built into a cultural power?
A country that makes a taboo of the phrase “standing committee”,
can block online searches for Li Bai. (China』s most renowned poet)
How can it become a cultural power?
