Facebook

Is the Cultural Revolution Returning?

After Xi Jinping took office, he unveiled the “China Dream”

slogan, and local governments all followed suit.

Recently, among a series of “China Dream" public service

ads, the slogan, “Socialism is good,” appeared on Beijing streets.

Netizens exclaimed, “Is this the returning

of the Cultural Revolution?”

According to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) official

media reports, recently many public service ads

were broadcast in Beijing streets, including “China Dream,”

and many cultural revolution style slogans, such as

“Socialism is good,” and “CCP is good, People are happy.”

Deutsche Welle pointed out that 130,000 people discussed

these ads on NetEase alone, and most were negative comments.

One netizen lamented, “After one night of sleep,

the Cultural Revolution is back.”

Many netizens said, “Socialism is good, where urban

managers can kill a watermelon vendor.”

Beijing residents Wu Tian Li said the authorities should show

with action, rather than slogans, whether socialism is good or not.

Liu Yinquan, director of China Social Democratic Party,

told NTD that

the CCP is comprised of princelings who possess more

than 80% of China’s wealth and control the entire China.

Now the living environment, food, and air

are not safe.

Under these conditions, Liu questioned whether

people would say the CCP is good.

Liu Yinquan: “Ordinary citizens can see that

the committee director deceived them,

the police bullied them, urban managers oppressed them,

the CCP’s demolition team wiped out their homes,

and the family planning team took their wives and

daughters to have an abortion or their tubes tied.”

Liu pointed out that by doing so, the CCP exposed

its beliefs and its ruling crises.

On March 17, 2013, during the closing ceremony

of People’s Congress, Xi Jinping called for 1.3 billion

Chinese people to achieve the “China Dream” from

a great national rebirth.

In March this year, the CCP official media, People’s Forum

started a network survey titled, “Confidence, Faith, and Belief."

The poll results show that more than 80% of people say no

to the “China Dream."

In April, Liu Yunshan, head of the propaganda department,

ordered the implementation of “China Dream"

in classrooms and into the minds of students.

This large-scale direct debut of slogans is thought to be

an upgrade of the “China Dream" propaganda.

Mainland senior journalist Gao Yu pointed out that

the core of the China Dream is the one-party dictatorship, which cannot be changed.

Beijing residents Wu Tian Li: “I think now people

are messed up, so are the high ranking officials.

They do not know what to do and feel nothing is right.”

Well-known historian Zhang Lifan told Deutsche Welle

that after Xi’s talk this January, the public has completely

lost hope in any political reform.

Beijing Art Village poet Wang Cang said that the CCP

has always walked the Cultural Revolution path,

but now it puts on a tiny bit of economic whitewash.

Its totalitarian tyranny and dictatorship ideology

are unchanged, he commented.

Wang Cang: “In recent months, many people were arrested.

The political atmosphere became more brutal.

They strongly opposed rule by the constitution

and boycotted universal values.

China as a whole has moved to the left and free space

has become minimal.”

Nevertheless, Wang believes that now people from Mainland

have awakened and they are protesting against the severe rule.

Although the CCP is more brutal than before,

it is at the edge of collapse.
