Facebook

80% Chinese Deny China is World Power

Undoubtedly, all Chinese wish for the motherland’s prosperity.

Do you think today’s China is already a world power?

A recent survey shows 80% Chinese people do not believe so.

Critics say Chinese people still long for democracy and

freedom,

that the “American Dream" has become a “world dream.”

Let’s listen to what they are saying.

Recently, Global Times, a branch of the CCP’s

mouthpiece newspaper the People’s Daily,

did an online and phone survey to 1400 people

in seven Chinese cities.

The result shows that 80% of Chinese

do not believe that China is a world power.

This is Global Times’ 7th annual survey on

“The World in Chinese People’s Eyes.”

Chinese youth scholar Li Jialin says,

authorities see a strong state from official statistics,

while people need a strong society.

Mainland Scholar Li Jialin: “The so-called national power

and national rise is based on false statistics, while real strength lies in people’s living standard.

This is a large country, many people

still live in poverty and pain.

Unusually deformed, China’s economy

is on the brink of collapse.”

Beijing netizen surnamed Wang believes that

China has many problems to worry about.

Beijing netizens Mr. Wang:

“The current regime has come to the brink of collapse.

With all its internal problems, how can it be called powerful?

Besides, in past decades, China’s resources have been

exhausted, causing many problems, especially food problems.”

After the collapse of the Soviet Union, Communist China’s

situation became deeply precarious.

The world power structure is described as “one superpower (U.S.)

and many other powers –E.U. Japan, China, Russia etc.

Most countries do not agree with this description

of world power.

Japan’s Asa Hi Shinbun that this is the CCP’s

one sided view of the world.

As a result, the CCP favors power diplomacy based on conflicts.

However, the future of the world will emphasize more on

universal values such as human rights and democracy.

The so-called super powers do not need to confront each other.

Instead, they are currently already in economic collaboration.

If “confrontational power” does not define a world power,

then what are the real criteria?

Among discussions over this issue by Chinese netizens,

one is regarded as an expert remark. It goes:

‘A real world power must have a healthy and solid society.

It’s people must value such a healthy culture instead of

political or economic development.

Only such a power can be called a world power.’

Yuan Tengfei, known as “the best history teacher in China,”

mentioned repeatedly in his lectures and speeches that

the Chinese people boast a 5000 year history.

This is not due to powerful control but due to cultural

splendor that received respect from the world.

Power lies in respectful culture. A world power

is a power that outputs culture and ideas.

Xie Tian, professor at University of South Carolina:

“I believe that if truly rooted in traditional Chinese culture,

China is likely to become a world leader. Unfortunately,

our traditional culture has been destroyed by the CCP.

The current “Party Culture” combined with an

authoritarian ideology, can never gain influence or be accepted by the world’s people.

It is no longer accepted even by

the Chinese people themselves.”

The Global Times survey shows that 46% of people believe

that America’s return to the Asia-Pacific region will

restrict China’s development.

At the same time, 52.8% people are optimistic about

Sino-US relations,

they make the U.S.A first choice when they

travel abroad.

Comments say that although the Chinese government

spreads negative news about the U.S.A,

somehow the “American Dream” has now

become the “World Dream”.

The desire for democracy and freedom has always

existed in the minds of the Chinese people.
