Facebook

Heart Attack Hospitalizes Bo Xilai, Request to Meet Hu Jintao Rejected

After the Wang Lijun Scandal and Bo Xilai’s downfall,

the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) authorities only released

some information on April 10, about Bo’s “severe disciplinary

problems” and his wife’s “suspicion of murder”.

There had been no further mention until recently, when

Bo Xilai was reportedly sent to Beijing 301 Hospital after suffering a heart attack.

Sources reveal that Bo’s residence was heavily guarded

and his request to meet Jiang Zemin, Hu Jintao and Xi Jinping was rejected.

Analysis indicates that it is very likely Bo Xilai’s case will

be finalized before the CCP’s 18th Congress.

According to Mirror Monthly, insiders revealed that Bo Xilai

was once detained at a secret place in Huairou in Beijing

after his downfall and was then transferred to Beidaihe for the

Central Commission for Discipline Inspection’s investigation.

About 3 weeks ago, Bo Xilai had a heart attack and was

immediately sent to Beijing 301 Hospital.

Bo is currently staying in a high cadres’ ward

and is in a stable condition.

Sources reveal that during the investigation, Bo’s residence

was heavily guarded, although Bo was allowed to

move freely within the confined area and his relatives were

able to visit him under restrictions.

Bo requested to meet Hu Jintao, Jiang Zemin, Xi Jinping,

Zhou Yongkang, etc. but was rejected by the authorities.

People who see Bo say he is obviously getting thinner

during his stay in hospital.

In the past few months, there have been continuous rumors

about Bo Xilai.

Zhang Tianliang, current affairs commentator, said

that it is very likely that Bo Xilai’s case will be finalized

before the 18th Congress, since neither Hu Jintao

nor Xi Jinping wants to drag it on to the next generation.

[Zhang Tianliang]: “Hu Jintao wants to establish his prestige

within the Party through Bo’s case,

to win another term as the Chairman

of the Central Military Commission.

As for Xi Jinping, he doesn’t want to tackle Bo’s case

himself when he takes over after the 18th Congress,

because it was Wen Jiabao who initiated the struggle.

Therefore, as the final judgment on Bo’s case approaches,

both Xi and Wen want to put out some rumors.”

Reports also say that compared with Chen Xitong, former

Beijing Municipal Party chief, who was sentenced to 16 years

and Chen Liangyu, former Shanghai Municipal Party chief,

who was sentenced to 18 years, Bo’s case is more complex.

Bo Xilai has more complicated connections

within the CCP’s high-levels.

So it is a challenge for Hu Jintao and Xi Jinping to work out

how to tackle Bo’s case.

Apply Daily (HK) cited an analysis which says that

the information might be released by the authorities

on purpose to “test the water” or by Bo’s relatives

and supporters to affect the authorities’ final decision.

Zhou Zehao, scholar at York College of Pennsylvania (USA),

says the government’s lack of transparency results in all of the rumors.

[Zhou Zehao, Scholar, York College of Pennsylvania (USA)]:

“The government is lacking transparency.

If they were transparent, or had relatively independent media,

there would not have been so many rumors.

A healthy, democratic and advancing society

should meet certain requirements in this aspect.”

Sources also reveal that the CCP authorities might tackle

Wang Lijun, Gu Kailai and Bo Xilai separately—that is,

to sentence Wang for “treason”, and Gu Kailai and Zhang

Xiaojun for criminal offenses.

But the accusation against Bo might come out later,

after the “Two Congresses” in March 2013.

[Wu Jianguo, Internet writer]: “I think Bo Xilai’s case itself

is not that complicated because so many of his crimes have been exposed,

and Hu and Wen can easily punish him with

these accusations.

Now it’s time to see whether Hu Jintao can tackle it wisely;

so many of Bo’s crimes have been exposed, now he should be

punished strictly according to the law, to win people’s hearts.”

Zhang Tianliang says, no matter what attitude Hu and Wen

have held on other issues in the past,

if they can make the right decisions on Bo Xilai’s case and

with the final judgment on the blood-debt faction, such decisions should be supported.
