Facebook

Li Wangyang Dies under Suspicious Circumstances, Public Asks for Truth

Li Wangyang, leader of labor activist movement in Shaoyang

City, Hunan province, spent more than two decades in jail after the 1989 Tiananmen Square protests.

His body was confiscated by police after they claimed

he committed suicide.

His family and friends have expressed suspicion regarding

the odd circumstances of his passing.

His death also raised condemnation from world democracy

activists and human rights activists,

who launched “An Urgent Appeal for a Serious Investigation

into Li Wangyang’s Death” and

“The Committee to Investigate the Truth

Regarding Li Wangyang’s Suicide” online.

People from different walks of life joined the group

one by one.

They strongly urge the Chinese Communist Party (CCP)

authority to investigate the real truth and publish it publicly.

On the morning of June 6, when Li Wangyang’s sister,

Li Wangling, arrived at Shaoyang Daxiang District Hospital

as usual at around 7am, she found Li Wangyang hanging

from a window security bar, which looked like a suicide.

Li Wangyang’s family and friends suspect that there’s more

likelihood of it being a murder than a suicide.

Zhu Chengzhi, a good friend of Li Wangyang, pointed out

that Li Wangyang was a strong-willed man with extraordinary perseverance, unlikely to choose suicide.

Zhu Chengzhi: ”Threatening didn’t work on him.

He spent 21 years in jail and he is an upright, tough guy.

Yesterday (June 5), Li Wangyang asked his sister Li Wangling

to buy a speaker for him.

He wanted to exercise his hearing with a speaker.

I had stayed close with Li Wangyang on the morning of June 4. Everything was very calm.”

Zhu Chengzhi said family members and friends all suspect

Li Wangyang was murdered.

While the family waited for the autopsy in the hospital,

the Shaoyang police snatched the body and took it away.

Li Wangyang is 62 years-old. He was the chairman of

Shaoyang Workers Autonomous Federation in 1989.

Because he attended democratic activities, he was sentenced

by the authority to 13 years in jail after the Tiananmen massacre.

In May 2001, he was re-sentenced to 10 years in jail

on charges of “inciting subversion of state power.”

Finally, he was released in May 2011.

Due to the inhuman torture in the prison, Li Wangyang

was blind, deaf and paralyzed upon release.

He couldn’t speak and relied on others to feed him.

With the help from society, he received treatment in Daxiang

District Hospital, and his physical condition gradually improved.

After all, was Li Wangyang’s death a suicide or murder?

Zhang Lin is a democratic activist who was arrested by

the CCP tens of times and was imprisoned for 13 years.

When Zhang Lin heard the death of Li Wangyang,

he tweeted more than 50 times on twitter to express the suspiciousness of Li Wangyang’s death.

Zhang Lin pointed out that the national security of Shaoyang

has a guilty conscience, and is full of flaws in Li’s case.

How can a person hang from the back of the neck when

hanging themselves? Can it lead a person to die?

Furthermore, the knot used in the hanging rope was

a bowline knot.

How can a blind man make this kind of knot by himself?

And how can a person who has difficulty moving,

hang himself up?

Zhang Lin: ”I can understand Li Wangyang because I had

a similar experience to his.

He had suffered so much torment and difficulty in his life.

Those difficulties are beyond people’s imagination.

I feel extremely sad.

I feel danger because I feel that he was murdered.

I received a phone call from National Security this morning,

and they warned me not to focus on Li Wangyang’s death. Maybe I am at risk.”

At 9pm on June 6, Chinese Internet activists launched

“An Urgent Appeal for a Serious Investigation into Li Wangyang’s Death”,

requesting an investigation by a non-Shaoyang statutory body

under the observation of representatives from Li Wangyang’s family and friends.

They are also requesting that the real cause of death be

published after the serious investigation.

After the Urgent Appeal published, within 5 hours more than

1,000 people signed their name in support.

The total number of people who signed reached 2,200

at 21:34 on June 7.

Many organizations, including Amnesty International,

The Irish Front and

Hong Kong’s China Human Rights Lawyers Concern Group,

published their statements and took actions to support Li Wangyang.

Zhou Zhirong, a Hunan democracy veteran listed the four

main suspicious points regarding Li Wangyang’s death.

He gave sufficient reasons to prove that Li Wangyang

was murdered.

He also issued an initiative to countries, organizations,

groups and personnel who take care of China’s democracy

to set up “The Committee to Investigate the Truth

Regarding Li Wangyang’s Suicide.”

Many people from all around the world thus joined

the committee.

Tang Baiqiao, the president of “League of Peace

and Democracy in China” pointed out that

after the truth of Li Wangyang’s death is investigated,

it may detonate a new 60-year revolutionary movement.

Tang Baiqiao: ”From Li Wangyang’s case, you can see

the whole picture of the CCP, which is an evil picture.

No matter whether Li committed suicide or was murdered,

all of us should search for the truth, condemn CCP’s atrocities,

ask CCP to find out the murderer, and apply severe

punishment, then take further action otherwise.”

Zhang Lin pointed out that the murder of Li Wangyang

Is warning all Chinese that the CCP has secretly raised its butcher’s knife.

If Chinese can’t immediately mobilize to unveil and stop CCP,

the butcher’s knife will cut everybody’s head.
