Facebook

Scholars Challenge Marxism-Leninism

Recently, many China’s scholars pointed out

the hazard of Marxism-Leninism and Mao Thought.

They criticized and questioned these theories,

requiring them to be mandatory removed.

Some analysts are concerned that these

“anti Marxism-Leninism” scholars

might be suppressed by the authorities.

In China, currently surrounded by “red songs”

and a chilled political climate, economist Mao Yushi

published an online article, criticizing the CCP’s

(Chinese Communist Party) political cornerstones,

Marxism-Leninism and Mao Thought

On May 13, Zhang Xuezhong, a professor from

East China University of Political Science and Law

(ECUPSL), wrote to the Minister of Education,

Yuan Guiren, asking to remove the Marxism,

Mao Thought, and Deng Theories

from college course lists, in an attempt to liberate

Chinese people from decades of political lies.

Hu Ping, Chief Editor of Beijing Spring,

believes that governments cannot impose a theory

or an idea on people by force or indoctrination.

Hu Ping: “CCP likes and agrees with these theories,

but it is wrong to impose them on people

by a country’s public power or by making

mandatory courses and core exams

through the Ministry of Education.”

forcibly imposing a certain philosophy

or political idea in education, the whole society

will stay in ignorance and people will lose courage

to seek the truth. To force people to accept

and express a certain philosophy or political idea

is an invasion of freedom of thought and speech.

Lan Shu, a commentator, said that upon entering

the 21st Century, Chinese, especially intellectuals,

have realized and demanded freedom of thought,

and the freedom to seek the truth.

Lan Shu: “To build a harmonious society,

you first need to decide what mainstream value is,

and what the society is based on. For example,

western societies value freedom and equality.

How about China? Since the bankruptcy

of the international communist movement

and the Cultural Revolution,

this mainstream value has been missing.”

Currently, China’s leftish website, Utopia, started

collecting signatures in an attempt to have

a public prosecution of Mao Yushi and Xin Ziling.

Zhang Xuezhong is also threatened by ECUPSL,

fearing that he might lose his job.

Lan Shu: “What authorities speak, write,

or the Party Constitution, is all still communism.

To advocate any other ideology is considered a crime

of subversion and you will be arrested.

Then the Chinese society is actually a society

without any mainstream values.”

Lin Heli, a political commentator in Hong Kong,

also believes that CCP’s current factional struggle

is about political positions and economic interests.

But on the issue of CCP’s position as a permanent

ruling party, all factions agree on the policy

to actively suppress any unstable factors.

Therefore, they still need the excuse

of Marxism-Leninism and Mao-Deng Thought.
