9月11日凌晨，于朦朧在北京陽光上東小區離奇墜亡。
據海外X平台上「新聞調查」發表一篇長文指，此事牽扯到一個家族的脈絡，還有17人飯局的名單。這裡面牽扯一個關鍵人物，那就是辛奇，原名辛曉雄，是天娛傳媒有限公司的掌控人。有傳言稱他是中共高層的私生子。
知情人爆料，事發當晚的聚會共有17人參加，包括導演程青松、方某，編劇極某某，演員高某某、宋某某、于朦朧的經紀人與助理，以及多位重要人物的子女。事發後，上述多人紛紛聲明撇清關係。但網絡已不買帳。
9月20日起，有網友通過全球性非政府組織「AVAAZ」，發起「為于朦朧討公道」全球連署，指出于朦朧死亡過程高度疑似遭受殘酷虐殺，呼籲展開全面、獨立且透明的調查，截至10月4日中午，已有201,445人參與。
近日，有網友給于朦朧寫了一首《請記住這個名字—于朦朧》的歌曲。歌詞中直指，這是一場惡魔的狂歡，他們受到獨裁體制的庇護，目無王法。希望大家為他發聲，終有一天真相會大白。
