Facebook

Chinese Premier Praised Taobao Owners For Promoting

Growth, But Ignored Their Overworked Conditions

During the recent Economic Situation Forum held in Beijing,

Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Premier Li Keqiang praised

hard-working owners of online shopping platform taobao.com.

He said they were showing the greatest “potential growth" and

a powerful driving force to promote development.

Experts questioned if Li Keqiang paid attention to young

Taobao shopkeepers’ sudden deaths due to overwork.

Did he know about the “fake Taobao Goods" raised by people.

Where will the unique economic growth rate

with Chinese characteristics take China to?

During the recent Economic Situation Forum held in Beijing,

Alibaba Group founder Ma Yun, and foundee of taobao.com,

talked a lot about the entrepreneurship and employment

brought by taobao.com.

He claims that while the U.S. global retailer Wal-mart set up

the B2C model, he hopes to set up in China a C2B model

driven by demand.

Li Keqiang continued with Ma Yun’s words that he had seen

a conversation between a Taobao shop owner and a customer.

The owner received an order at midnight

and immediately sent out the goods.

He then asked the customer to give him a good feedback.

Li Keqiang praised the efforts of these young people by

compensating for the decrease in current economic growth rate.

It is a powerful driving force to promote development.

Li Keqiang praised them as China’s “Largest Potential Growth."

CCP mouthpiece Xinhuan.net reported Li Keqiang’s speech.

Chinese media widely quoted this as positive news.

Beijing Internal reference lead researcher Gong Shengli:

“If a country needs this kind of promotion, I do not think it

helps much. Shops in Europe need to close.

To work day and night do not comply with rules of nature.

Sudden deaths of Taobao owners happened frequently.

I think this kind economic model needs caution."

Now taobao.com has become one of China’s

“New Ten high-risk Occupation."

Young shopkeepers dying due to overwork .

Last September, 27-year-old shop owner in Wuhan City

died of heart disease.

Two more cases of sudden death were reported in November.

In May this year, 27-year-old Crown taobao.com seller

in Jiangsu Province died of cerebral hemorrhage.

In July 24-year-old “4 Diamond" owner in Hangzhou

suddenly died at home.

On the same day, 36-year-old “Royal Mud Shop" founder

in Changsha suddenly died at home.

A 29-year-old shopkeeper in Henan Province borrowed

money four years ago to start a shop in taobao.com.

He worked very hard to reach the “Crown” level,

but died in October.

These shopkeepers often complained they are too tired

when they were alive.

Gong Shengli: “Does Li Keqiang know these sudden deaths?

I am not sure what he promotes."

Premier Li’s praises were also criticized by netizens.

Some netizen indicated it is fine to process orders during

mid-night, but shipping at midnight cannot be done

by small-scale companies.

Some netizens revealed: “My experience was receiving

threatening calls from taobao.com owners when negotiating

with them over defective products."

Netizen Tian Zhen: “I purchased credits for Skype at

taobao.com, but could not use them at all several times.

I tried to negotiate with the shop owners, but no response.

One of my friends bought over 600 yuan’s credit with six

accounts. But all of those were shut down. No one responded."

Industry professionals pointed out that there is no

online commodity certification regulation.

All luxury watches on taobao.com are fake.

Alibaba Group also revealed that 1107 “China Suppliers" on

its site were terminated due to fraud.

Company executives resigned.

A report on February 28 2011 of Beijing Evening said,

Guangzhou Fangnai Clothing And Accessory Co.ltd

sued 4,000 taobao.com shops for selling fake Fangnai clothes.

In addition to a variety of fake and defect goods, netizens also

questoined some homemade food, cosmetics, clothing and

apparel, etc. Have these foods passed the hygiene test?

Is the heavy metal content in cosmetics illegal?

Have formaldehyde and other pollutants in clothing

exceeded the right index?

Gong Shengli questioned if this new economy of online sales

can really boost China’s economic growth rate?
