Facebook

Questioning the Whereabouts of Xi Jinping—Is Xi Healthy?

Since his last public appearance on September 1, China’s

Vice President, Xi Jinping, has been missing from public view

for more than 10 days, with all media currently looking for

Xi Jinping’s whereabouts—all are guessing, is Xi Jinping well?

In addition, the Chinese Communist Party(CCP)’s 18th

National People’s Congress (NPC) is just around the corner,

and overseas media are questioning the stability of the CCP,

putting the regime in another awkward position.

On September 5, Xi Jinping cancelled his meeting with

U.S. Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton,

but the Chinese Foreign Ministry did not explain the reasons.

The spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs dodged

facing a bombardment of questions from foreign media.

His embarrassment aroused even more speculation on

Xi Jinping’s sudden disappearance.

All kinds of speculations are swarming, such as: Xi has had

a car accident; has suffered a back injury or a heart attack;

there’s been an assassination attempt; etc.

Meanwhile, on Chinese microblogs all information about

Xi Jinping has been deleted—even the words “back injury" have become ‘sensitive’on Sina microblog.

Xia Xiaojiang, a political commentator, says China’s officials

did not give any clear account to dispel outside speculations,

which is one reason why all kinds of rumors have sprung up.

In addition, because CCP leaders’ health problems are

treated as top-secret, people can only guess from spotting

abnormal movements of vehicles outside the hospital,

and linking it with whether Xi has appeared in public or not.

[Xia Xiaoqiang]: “One point needs attention: how China’s

official responded to the outside inquiry on Xi Jinping.

When media reporters asked if Xi missed the meeting due to

being injured, Hong Lei, the spokesman for the Ministry of

Foreign Affairs, did not give a clear answer or give updates,

saying, “I have no news to report."

If Xi is ok, Hong Lei should answer that they’re all very well,

and no car accidents happened—from this point of view,

it’s very possible that Xi is in big trouble."

British Financial Times’front page covered on Xi Jinping’s

disappearance becoming a mystery.

The Daily Telegraph reported that the possible next supreme

Leader, Xi Jinping, had disappeared from public for 9 days.

Taiwan’s Central News Agency says, this is very rare in China;

since Zhou Enlai the Chinese diplomatic community has been

pursuing the motto: ‘Nothing’s trivial in diplomatic relations’.

General foreign affairs are not trivial things to them,

and high-level diplomatic activities are even more important.

New York Times reported that, an informant and political

analyst in Beijing had said that, 59-year-old Xi Jinping had suffered a mild heart attack.

Ren Baiming, a political commentator, says Xi Jinping was

to be the successor as the next generation leader,

which is a compromise of Jiang Zemin and Hu Jintao’s infighting.

So Xi Jinping’s activities all accompanied Jiang and Hu’s

infighting, influencing the future political direction in China.

[Ren Baiming]: “Xi’s political orientation has played a

vital role in China’s political patterns and future directions.

Since the Bo Xilai events came out, Xi Jinping basically

teamed up with Hu and Wen, and Jiang’s faction forces were significantly reduced;

Xi Jinping’s personal health has

a great impact on Chinese politics."

Xia Xiaoqiang analyzes that, Jiang’s faction constantly release

news overseas and make trouble in order to delay the power transition in the 18th NPC,

and sustain their political life— Jiang’s faction are aiming

for a future opportunity for a coup.

[Xia Xiaoqiang]: “If Xi Jinping had accidents and cannot be

the next leader, it is what Jiang’s faction want to see.

With the 18th NPC approaching, if Xi Jinping cannot return to

the public, the CCP’s original plan and balance will be all destroyed,

having a huge impact to the CCP—a great change

to the CCP and China is expected in the future."

The chaos before the 18th NPC caused international media

to question the stability of the CCP regime.

Analysts point out that, before the 18th NPC,

at this critical moment in power transitions,

if the CCP will not release Xi"s situation, then suspicion

in the international society will only increase.
