More Action In Beijing A Precursor To The Official Announcement Of Zhou Yongkang Investigation

Beijing authorities have recently taken big steps.

Senior officials with ties to Zhou Yongkang,
former CCP Politburo Standing Committee member
and Secretary of Politics and Law Committee,
have been investigated and purged.
Experts and scholars analyze that these developments
are related to the high-profile announcement regarding
the probe into Zhou Yongkang’s affairs in the near future.
Let’s take a look at analyst interpretations.

On Jan. 19, Mainland media reprinted a Southern Weekend
article regarding the high-profile transformation
of the Politics and Law Committee last year.

The article explicitly stated that leaders should not comment
on a “specific case” and should let the judiciary handle it.

This is in stark contrast to the Politics and Law Committee’s
violent stability maintenance which was at the forefront
for so many years.

On Jan. 18, many media outlets reported that
Politics and Law Committee officials were summoned
to an emergency video conference
on the afternoon of Jan. 17.
Mobile phones and other communication tools such as audio
recording devices and pens were not allowed at this meeting.
At 7 p.m on Jan. 18, CCTV broadcasted the news that
someone at the highest level of government assigned
Ling Jihua, director of the United Front Work Department,
the task of informing democratic parties about a work report,
from beginning to end, issued by Xi Jinping and Wang
Qishan, secretary of the Central Discipline Inspection.

Education Sciences Associate Professor Li Yuanhua
of the original Capital Normal University analyzed that
these signs indicate that the CCP may publicize
Zhou Yongkang’s case very soon.

[Former Capital Normal University Associate Professor
of Education Science, Li Yuanhua]: “The recent constrictive
measures taken by the CCP are actually hinting at the fact
that preparations are being made in all aspects for the finale.”

Chinese political analyst in Beijing, Hua Po, believes
that Zhou Yongkang’s charges will be officially announced
during these meetings.

[Beijing China political watcher Hua Po]: “I believe they will
get to the bottom of the case as soon as they announce it.
It won’t be postponed until the Chinese Spring Festival
(Chinese New Year)."

Recently a story widely circulated amongst Mainland media.

In a high-profile fashion, many media outlets reported
that Huang Xiaowei, Deputy Minister of the Ministry
of Supervision and Central Discipline Inspection Committee
member joined the Central Judicial Reform Group.
The report also stressed that this will be Beijing’s first official
disclosure about the involvement of the Central Commission
for Discipline Inspection and the Ministry of Supervision
in the reform of the central judicial system.

[Hua Po]: “The Central Commission for Discipline Inspection
purged the Politics and Law Committee.
They have to solve the political and legal system crisis
in case any of the buddies of Zhou Yongkang, former leader
of the political and legal system, stir up trouble
when his case is announced in the near future.
Thus, they allow officials from the Central Commission
for Discipline Inspection to monitor officials
from the Politics and Law Committee
as well as the reshuffle of personnel.

After more than a year, Zhou Yongkang’s partisans
from Sichuan, as well as those in the oil and law sectors,
have been taken down.

Thus it wouldn’t be surprising that these people are concerned
about China’s political situation due the sack of Zhou.
However, what the offense is the CCP looking at
charging Zhou Yongkang with?

If Zhou Yongkang’s case follows Bo Xilai’s at all,
Zhou’s main charge will be corruption and his most
serious crimes won’t be mentioned.

[Li Yuanhua]: “From a corruption point of view,
it is perfectly justifiable and high sounding
for the Central Discipline Inspection Committee
to handle the case as the international community, the media,
Zhou’s political opponents, and society look on.”

Zhou Yongkang was labeled a “stability maintenance czar"
by Western media.
After the CCP leader Jiang Zemin launched the persecution
of Falun Gong in 1999, he exclusively used the Politics
and Law Committee for authority and the 610 Office
to persecute Falun Gong.

In 2006, overseas witnesses exposed the CCP’s
live organ harvesting from Falun Gong practitioners.
After investigations by a number of famous international
human rights lawyers, diplomats, journalists, and organ
transplant organizations, it was confirmed that the CCP
is carrying out organ harvesting from living Falun Gong
practitioners systematically on a large-scale.

The primary agency implementating such crimes against
humanity is the CCP Politics and Law Committee.

[Li Yuanhua]: “The main problem is in following
Jiang Zemin’s orders, Zhou Yongkang committed
the most historically evil, unforgivable crimes
in persecuting Falun Gong.
He still has the opportunity to continue to carry on
without having his vilest crimes exposed at their root.”

Reuters recently reported that Zhou Yongkang was placed
under house arrest by the 38th Army in a Tianjin villa
and was cut off from all contacts.

The investigation cases of more than 10 ministerial
or vice-ministerial officials including the CCP’s
highest procurator are related to Zhou Yongkang,
Reuters revealed.
