EP Conference Calls to Stop Live Organ Harvesting

On Jan. 29, the European Parliament (EP) held
a conference on human rights titled,
“The Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) persecution
on religious group—a horrifying story.”
It was hosted by Edward McMillan-Scott, Vice-President
of the EP with main portfolio Human Rights and Democracy.
The conference was supported by the Unrepresented
Nations and Peoples Organization (UNPO), a global democratic organization.
Invited talks were given by EP members, human rights
organizations’ representatives, scholars and witnesses of live organ harvesting.
Together they called for collective efforts
to put an end to this evil crime of the CCP.

At the meeting, three speakers of different backgrounds
were invited to expatiate on the authenticity and magnitude of live organ harvesting.
Ethan Gutmann, a London-based journalist and renowned
China watcher, and Li Huige, a professor of medicine from Germany, presented detailed statistics on the issue.
Obtained via an independent investigation they verified
that the growing rate of China’s organ transplantations is highly suspicious.
In addition, both approaches, testimonials from ex-labor
camps’ Falun Gong prisoners and investigation calls to China,
provided direct evidences of the CCP’s organ harvesting
from prisoners of conscience.

Dr. Enver Tohti, Uyghur surgeon, had witnessed himself
organ harvesting procedures from condemned criminals.
Back then the executor had intentionally deflected his shot
to keep the prisoner alive, so his organs can be harvested.
This experience had turned into a nightmare for Dr. Tohti,
as it has little difference from directly murdering a human.

Dr. Enver Tohti, Uyghur surgeon:
”This profanes my responsibility as a doctor.
Throughout all these years
I am always mentally burdened by this.”

McMillan-Scott told a story from 1942, when a justice of
US Supreme Court heard a young Polish man’s testimony of his experience in a Nazi concentration camp in Warsaw.

Edward McMillan-Scott, EP Vice-President: ”After the
interviews, the rather skeptical judge said to the journalists,
I did not say that the young man was lying.
I said I could not believe him, there’s a difference.”

Seventy years later, CCP’s crime has yet to draw
the attention of the global media,
even though live organ harvesting of Falun Gong
practitioners has been exposed for over six year now.
Donskis Leonidas, presenter of EP’s 2011 Annual Report
on Human Rights and Democracy in the World remarked,
this is partially because it is hard for people to believe
these facts are true.

Donskis Leonidas, EP member: ”It’s very difficult for people
to believe that in a civilized country such things are possible.
For Europeans or North Americans such crimes
against humanity can only be associated with the Nazis.”

However, that is not the only reason for the silence
on live organ harvesting.

Tunne Kelam, EP member: ”The reason is the very
impressive image of China as a growing power.”

Dr. Enver Tohti: ”When economic interests dominate,
or less money is left in the pocket, people will put human rights issues aside.
This is really sad for the Western world.
In my opinion they should not act like this.”

At the same time, as the main victim group of live organ
harvesting, Falun Gong practitioners had never stopped
calling for support from the global society,
using peaceful ways.

Zhang Erping, Falun Dafa Information Center representative:
”We hope the global society, the United Nations and governments, especially of western democratic countries,
to stand out condemning this crime publicly, and to
furthermore put an end to this atrocity as soon as possible.”

Standing between the economic interests and strong
voices of victims, EP members believe that the parliament has its own responsibility to make the right choice.

Donskis Leonidas: ”It has to be said aloud, it’s a crime
against humanity that should be prosecuted by the Hague Tribunal. The answer is just that simple.”

Tunne Kelam: ”This is morally devastating, and if we
don’t take knowledge seriously about this practice,
we have become morally and politically
co-responsible what is going on."

China watcher Ethan Gutmann believes that the only way
to solve the problem is to make any organ transplantation in China an illegal act.

Ethan Gutmann, investigative journalist: “It does not matter
who you are it does not matter how much you are suffering.
You go to China, you get an organ and we don’t know
where that organ comes from, we don’t know how it’s sourced, you are a criminal.
You can go behind bars. You go to jail. You go to prison.
That is the only way to handle this issue at this point."

Some EP members remarked, this international conference
is like a resounding blow to warn the global society.
The revealing crime of live organ harvesting
will only continue to shock the world.
