Locke Tagged “Neo-colonialist"

U.S. Ambassador to Beijing Gary Locke’s “backpacker"
debut shows his rectitude, wining Chinese people’s acclaim.
However, Guangming Daily, Chinese Communist Party’s
(CCP) mouthpiece media, denounces on its website
Locke’s style as “American neo-colonialism.” It expresses
worry that U.S. officials will win over Chinese people’s heart.
Comments say that Guangming Daily tries to instigate
anti-American sentiment in the age of open information.
That will only bring ridicule. Later, Guangming Daily
removed the article from its website.

Entitled “Beware Of Locke’s Neo–colonialism," the article
directs its attack to the new American ambassador.
It admits, Locke brought no followers to his post, no guards,
no flowers or applause, but only his family with large bags.
This conduct is in sharp contrast to the Chinese bureaucrats,
winning the acclaim of many ordinary Chinese people.
At the same time the article says, “Locke is not trying
to educate Chinese officials, but to win over Chinese people,
to strengthen Chinese people’s fawning servility,
and to break up China’s ideology."
The article claims, “Locke’s performance of incorruptibility is
a despicable intention of instigating political unrest in China."
Former New York Times news assistant Zhao Yan said,

CCP’s hack writers always make an enemy of America
and the modern civilized society.
They keep seeking to instill panic in Chinese readers.

Zhao Yan: “If anything that belongs to others is bad, how
about your (CCP’s) luxury office buildings and mansions?
Isn’t that a replication of Maoism
from the Cultural Revolution?"
Zhao pointed out that communist China has regarded
America as the greatest enemy from the Mao era.
But in fact America provided generous support to China
during World War II.
And back in history, it returned all the Boxer Indemnity
to China to fund the establishment of Tsinghua University.
Zhao Yan: “Ever since the Korean War in 1950s,
CCP has depicted the United States as the biggest enemy,
because it knows that if a democratic system is established
in China, its tyranny will come to an end.
That is how they deceive Chinese people
with America as an enemy."

China’s cultural critic Ye Kuangzheng pointed out that CCP’s
anti-U.S. sentiment originates from its fear of democracy.
Ye: “America indeed has undermining power against many
totalitarian regimes in terms of thinking, behavior and values.
So totalitarian states show great resistance and fear
toward America’s value system and social institutions."
CCP’s hack writers, however, spare no effort
in distorting facts to legitimatize CCP’s rule.
Beijing constitutional scholar Chen Yongmiao pointed out
that CCP’s anti-American sentiment
is actually a resistance toward
the Western constitutional democracy.

Chen Yongmiao: “Whatever it (CCP) says, it just wants
to block the trend of constitutional government,
the trend of democratization. The West provides
the best examples of constitutional democracy,
so CCP just tries to counteract the West’s influence.
It incites extreme nationalist sentiments to serve its rule."
Locke and Biden’s style of incorruptibility is in sharp contrast
to the luxurious style of Chinese officials.
It is an exposure of the ugly communists’ dictatorship face.

Even the Guangming Daily article lamented:
“If CCP cannot take the initiative to consciously remove
the virus in its bureaucracy,
if CCP cannot separate itself from the government,
it can only watch Locke winning Chinese people’s hearts!"
Zhao Yan: “If they (CCP) cannot learn incorruptibility from
Biden and Locke on how an official should perform his duty,
CCP will sooner or later decline because of corruption.
This cannot be saved by economic development.
We have seen that both Gaddafi and Mubarak have lost
their political power because of corruption."

Radio France Internationale’ review article said that Biden’s
“noodle lunch" produced way better advertisement effect
than Xinhua News Agency’s “Times Square show" billboard
for CCP’s image, which costs over US$10 million.
A simple meal of a vice president
and a simple inauguration of a new ambassador
can vividly demonstrate a country’s true values
and win people’s hearts.
