Crowd Gathers in Mong Kok

The Occupy Central movement steps into its 62nd day
on Nov. 28.
While protesters remain in the Admiralty, Causeway Bay,
crowds reformed in Mong Kok which
experienced police clearance two days ago.

Citizens responded to an online call to re-occupy Mong Kok
and showed up after 7pm.
Many of them gathered around the street that was occupied
previously with open yellow umbrellas and banners,
“I want real universal suffrage" and chanted slogans.

The gathering culminated at about 10:00 pm.

At least several thousand people gathered
on Sai Yeung Choi Street.

Meanwhile, the police were also deployed to guard every
street to prevent people from leaving the sidewalk
and getting onto the road.

Late at night, the crowd remained at standoff with the police.

Students Call on Occupy Admiralty

Student leaders of Occupy Central movement, the Federation
of Students and Scholarism have both indicated no intention
to re-occupy Mong Kok, but urged people to go to Admiralty.

Scholarism convener Joshua Wong indicated in a Hong Kong
Commercial Radio program on the 28th that people who want
to express their political aspirations can go to the Admiralty
or Causeway Bay.
He also expressed concerns about the situation in Mong Kok.
They suspect the police will upgrade the force.

The Federation also called on the public through Facebook
to get ready for the next two days with supplies such as
protective gear, water and food.

Gathering on Sunday (the 30th) on Admiralty will be
conducted to exert greater pressure on the government.

Amnesty International Urges HK Police to Show Restraint

When the Federation planned the mass rally on Admiralty
this Sunday, Amnesty International warned the city’s police
to urgently stamp out any arbitrary and excessive use of force.

Amnesty International reported, “The past two days have seen
major police operations to disperse protesters from the
Mong Kok area of the city marred by incidents of unjustifiable
force against protesters, bystanders and media.”

“The heavy-handed approach by police violates the protesters’
rights to freedom of expression and peaceful assembly,
and risks exacerbating an already tense situation,” said Mabel Au,
Director of Amnesty International Hong Kong.
