CCP Media Praises Nobel Prize

Mo Yan, the Vice Chairman of Chinese Writers’ Association,
won the 2012 Nobel Prize for Literature,
and was praised greatly by the Chinese Communist Party
(CCP) mouthpiece media.
On October 11, the People’s Daily official website said,

“Mo Yan won the Nobel Prize in Literature.
The Chinese have been waiting for this day for too long."
It also sung the praises of the Nobel Prize for Literature,
saying it is a symbol with value.

However, 12 years ago, when the Swedish Academy awarded
the same prize to another Chinese writer, Gao Xingjian, the CCP’s attitude was exactly the opposite.
The People’s Daily said then, “To award the Nobel Prize
for Literature to Gao Xingjian seriously hurts the feelings of the Chinese people,"
and also criticized the Swedish Academy saying it was
“consistently reactionary, hostile to the red regime and to Chinese people, and is a totally reactionary organization."

A sudden change in the position of the CCP mouthpiece media
has caused people from all walks of life to question the double standards of the CCP media.
Some asked, “CCTV, People’s Daily, Xinhua News Agency,
the Global Times, and other mainstream media,
do you think the Western world is involved in any political
conspiracy in awarding a Chinese the Nobel Prize for Literature this time?"

Some also criticized, “The official media can always change
its position by lying and criticizing on behalf of the people,
which is the typical symptoms of split personality
of the official media."

Disputes Regarding Mo’s Noble Prize

Mo Yan won the Nobel Prize, and the public opinion varies
widely at home and abroad.
Critics argue that a writer within the CCP system does not
deserve the Nobel Prize.
Some even think he did not keep the promise ‘not to do evil.’
In 2009, in order to protest the fact that Germany invited
Chinese dissident writers to a book fair,
Mo Yan withdrew from the same book fair.
Mo was also involved in the transcription of Mao Zedong’s
Speech at The Yan’an Forum on Literature,
and preached the CCP’s order that literature and
art should serve politics and the CCP.
Mo Yan’s response to the Nobel Prize for Literature
that has been awarded to him is that this is a victory of literature, not a victory of politics.

However, when Mo Yan claimed his literary victory,
Bei Feng,
who criticized Mo online, found his Sina microblog
account deleted.

Some were forced to take off t-shirts, someone’s cell phone
was confiscated, and some were even taken to the police station and interrogated for 5 hours.

Violent Explosion at the Site of a Forced Demolition

According to Radio Free Asia, at the home of a petitioner
against the demolition of his house in Haozhuang Town,
Yingze District, Taiyuan, Shanxi Province, an intense explosion
went off on Thursday afternoon,
causing the death of the owner’s wife and 3-year-old daughter,
as well as two unidentified people outside.
The owner, who escaped the explosion, had poured gas
all over his body and went to argue with the land developer.

It is learned that at the home of explosion, 2 barrels of gasoline
prepared for self-immolation had originally been stored
when the owner learned the government officials
intended to forcibly demolish their house.
But who ignited the gas still remains unknown.

After the explosion, the police cordoned off the scene,
and the Public Security Bureau of Taiyuan, Shanxi Province opened an investigation.
However, the local government and media did not report
the explosion at all.
